LAST EDITED ON Mar-18-13 AT 03:06PM (MST)[p]Chairbound Hunters is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization consisting of all volunteers who help wheelchair bound hunters and Wounded Warriors to have hunting opportunities that they may only dream about. The parent organization is based in Wheatland Wyoming and is in its eleventh year.

The Utah Chapter was started 3 years ago by a Grandfather and Grandson Ken, paraplegic since age 14, due to a 4-wheeler accident 12 years ago. Having raised Ken since a baby the outdoors had always been a major activity resulting in stronger bonds for hunting. Young Ken went camping and hunting from age 7 and on and shot his first deer at age 12. After age 14 and a paraplegic the team of Grandfather and Grandson still went hunting but were mostly relegated to road hunting which typically has very poor results. We became aware of Chairbound Hunters in Wyoming and Ken has taken 6 buck antelope and one nice 4-point muledeer in Wyoming with landowner permissions. Three years ago we decided to start a Utah Chapter after we became aware of so many young and older men confined to wheelchairs for a variety of reasons, mainly accidents. Ken met many after joining and playing wheelchair basketball.

During the past three years, we have help in providing a range of hunting experiences for pheasant, turkey, coyote, deer and elk with all volunteers. Our group has grown to include over 25 paraplegic and quadriplegic persons and a growing number of Wounded Warriors/Disabled Vets. Volunteers have provided 4- wheelers and side-by-sides to help but missing is an all terrain vehicle such as the Action Track Outdoor Electric to cover rough ground and get closer to the game. The satisfaction to see the enjoyment disabled Individuals have to get back into the hunting game is priceless and volunteers will all attest to that.

The idea for a fund raiser after seeing such a unit on display was started by Rich Evans to provide a unit for Larry Mower, paraplegic and avid hunter and outdoorsman. Larry visited the Chairbound Hunters booth at the Western Hunting Expo in February 2013 which was manned by Ryan, a quad and Ken, a paraplegic. Larry suggested Starting the fund raiser to purchase a Trackchair usable by numerous Chairbound Hunter members on a loan-out basis and this effort was initiated by Monster Muleys, Rich Evans. The deluxe edition has a provision to raise the paralyzed hunter to a standing position for better visibility. The area rep for Action Trackchair, Anni Barta also points out that the standing feature has numerous health benefits for a paralyzed hunter such as better blood circulation in the lower legs, reduces the chance of pressure sores, improved bone density and reduces leg muscle atrophy.

The $16,000.00 goal was set to purchase the best unit with standing capability and extras such as gun rest, water bottle holder, etc. If you enjoy the outdoors and hunting please donate to this worthy cause by going to www.chairboundhuntersut.com , see the Pay Pal link on the home page. When donating please add a comment such as ?Monster Muley Donation?. Also if anyone would like a receipt for tax deduction, that can be provided.

Thanks for your support. Kenneth Vaughn, Board Leader 801-499-9770
