man, thats one of the best "as they lay " picture I have ever seen. Its hard to explain, but the tree, the shed in the opening and the match next to it in the sage...just tells the story. Like that bull was raking that tree...dropped that side then walked to the left and lost the other. Anyway, Great set and pics..thanks for sharing.
jr, browtine is right, those are a coupla sweet 'as they lay' pics. thanks for taking the time to take and share them.....are you going to try and restore the color?
WTH,
That isn't bald ridge. It's to flat. I'm thinking around Meeteetse! Looks great!!! It is always nice to find them laying right next to eachother, great pics,
HM
They were found south of Cody, west of Oregon basin(Hoodoo ranch) on a long ridge that runs N/S from the Meeteetse rim.I think thats what its called??.This is the second matching set ive found in Wyoming the first was in sunlight basin but it was a small 5 point set.
We hunt the nov season around Cody every year and to find any decent sheds is a treat because most of the good ones are picked up already.I would love to be in that area in the spring when the weather breaks to be able to roam the sage lookin for the fresh ones.Mabe someday Ill venture that way and try it but for now I scour the hills when Im there deer hunting.
Hey, are you from Califorina? Did you hunt deer on Heart Mountain this year? Do you have a brother, because I am sure me and my brother talked to you up on Heart Mountain..
WTH
WTH we were on heart a couple of days.My younger bro was after a buck when some guys got the shot at him(the buck). Were you on the walk-in on the north side of heart? I was too the west snooping around in the canyons, if you are the same fellas. He told me he talked to some guys after they killed a buck not far from the parking area if so congrats, the deer were pretty scarce in that area this year.
JR,
WTH is my brother. We shot a pretty nice buck (3X3) just to the Northwest of the Parking area on the long flat ridge. We talked to your brother! Initally we had seen the deer when we arrived but could not see the buck. Just thought it was a group of does. We walked up the road, and saw your brother glassing the deer. We watched him head up the valley, we thought he was heading on to look for other deer (at the time). We looked back and saw the buck in the middle of the does. We made the stalk and killed the buck. Just as we had made the shot, your brother came up and talked to us. We had no idea that he was making a long way around stalk. Didn't mean to cut him off! The deer were scarce there this year, Heart Mt. is such a small area for so many people.
Tanner
Tanner, such a small world isnt it?.Ya he said he was after that buck but thats hunting,at least someone got some thing outa that area.Ive killed a few decent bucks on the back side of that area usually the fatherst point away from the truck!!! The elk have actually screwed that area up for any good deer to hang out in there .Just about everybody i run across in that area now are after the elk and not deer. Too much activity and the deer head west to the Two-dot property. In the big drainage north west of the parking area I found a couple of old 5 point muley sheds this year, ones that go into the landscape around the house but nothing fresh, good luck hunting down the fresh ones this spring i will be wishing I was in that country about that time.Leave some for me so come November I can pack a few to the truck on them no deer days.;-)
I hear ya,
That is a really good area. We used to hunt it before the walk-in area was created. The bucks were plentiful. We would be able to harvest about three good bucks in one day. Now there are so many elk hunters in the area, that the only option is to get as far away from the road as possible, the only problem there is that this year we saw some guys who drove from Two-Dot and were parked at the end of the Walk-In on Heart Mt. It is very frustrating when you hike for hours and see somebody in your hole, who just dove there. Oh well, I think I might start deer hunting in some remote areas and get away from the crowd.
