QUESTION REGARDING FOC... I two sets of gold tip arrows. my 5575 arrows have FOC of 15% my 7595 arrows have an FOC of 12% Is 15% FOC to much?

NO!

According to the former world record holder at 90m with a recurve, you can never have to much FOC if the arrow spines correctly.

It takes a fairly light draw weight and light stiff shaft with heavy tip to get 15% FOC. In fact it would be out of the normal relm for nearly all hunting equipment IMHO.

Let me know what your exact set up is and I'll run it in TAP to see how it works for your bow.

Cheers,
Pete

Thanks, here is my info....

65 lbs, 65% let off
28 inch draw length
28.5 arrow length
100 grain tips for a total of 373 grains
gold tip arrows (5575)
trophy taker drop away rest
I have not chrono. my bow yet. I plan on doing that this week.

After figuring my FOC on my 5575's if I were to add a 125 grain broadhead that would extend my balance point another inch and decrease my FOC to around 12. any info would be helpful.

This is the setup on my new bow and I pretty much had the same setup on my old bow. Although my arrows were 1/2 to 1 inch shorter. I have never had any problems tuning fixed blade broadheads. A little more info.

You will usually have better arrow flight with more FOC then less. Just make sure you have adaquate spine for the heavier tip.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-04 AT 09:52AM (MST)[p]TAP shows the 100 grain tip at 11.69% FOC. The 125 grain tip would give it 14.08% FOC.

The chart shows the 100 grain tipped arrow just into the yellow on the week side. The 125 grain tip is off the chart on the weak side.

I'll suggest you go up to the 75/95's with the 125 grain tips at 29" length. This will give you 13.27% FOC and a 425 grain arrow that is right in the middle of the perfect range.

If it's a hunting arrow, this would be perfect for any animal. If it's an arrow for 3D shooting, you wuold be better off with the 55/75's and the grain tips or so at 28.5". This would give you a flatter shooting setup for those long range shots.

I think that arrow will be hyper critical for any imperfections in your shot though. It will be hard to tune and get consistant.

Cheers,
Pete

Edit: Sorry I missed your note that the arrows were 27.5" This would put the 100 grain tips and the 55/75's right in the middle of the range. The 125 grain tips would require a 27" length to spine out correctly.

I am going to go with the 7595 for the hunting, although I don't really want to go to 125 grain broadhead. I went to the gold tip website and was able to figure my FOC with the two types of arrows and different weights in points. What does your program say about going with the 7595 and a 100 grain tip. The gold tip program shows this

12.08 FOC FOR
29.5 INCH ARROW
100 GRAIN TIP

AND 10.69 FOC FOR A 125 GRAIN

Of course it doesn't say anything about spine. I looked at the charts for gold tip and this is what it says.

with my arrow length at 29 draw weight at 65-70 100 grain point I can shoot 5575 until I go to a 30" arrow then I will need to go to the 7595. According the to the chart I am close to the brink of moving over to the heavier arrow.

???QUESTION??? If I go to the heavier arrow and stay at 29 inches can I shoot a 100 grain tip. If I wanted to use my 5575 arrows what draw weight would I need to use to have these arrows spine correctly? I have looked at the advert.for the archery program and I think I will buy it after a while or so. any help would be great. THANKS.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-04 AT 11:17PM (MST)[p]There's something wrong with the Gold Tip FOC calculator. A 125 grain tip will always be higher FOC than a 100 grain tip on the same arrow.

Acording to TAP you will need to go down to 60 lbs to get the 5575 and 100 grain tip into the low end of the green at 29". 63 lbs with a 28" arrow will be right in the middle of the green and an FOC of 11.35%.

With the 7595 and the 100 grain tip you will need 68 - 70 lbs to be in the middle with an FOC of 10.54%

With the 7595, 125 grain tip and 29" arrow you will be dead in the middle of the green at 65 lbs and an FOC of 12.85%.

Seems like a pretty simple choice to me, if you are still going to buy all this stuff.

If you already have the 5575's and 100 grain tips, just cut some down to 28" and call it good for this year until you robinhood all of them and need new arrows :)

Cheers,
Pete

Sorry I missed one more you were asking about.

29.5" 7595 with 100 grain tip is on the very top of the green for stiffness with an FOC of 10.43%
