Ancient Spear Weapon OK'd For Deer Hunt in Pennsylvania

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/01/0124_060124_atlatl_deer_2.html

For the purists on the site that are always complaining about how unethical everyone is for using trail cameras, food plots, inline muzzle loaders, crossbows, or any other hunting method that they don't use.

Now you can go to Pennsylvania, put on a loin cloth and chase down a deer and fling a spear at it. Once you have done that, then I guess you have the right to put others down as being non-traditional.

Do I have to put on a loin cloth?

(Because anyone who sees me in a loin cloth will instantly see I have absolutely no right to put down others....)

;-)

+1 brokenwind. Only true spear hunters can look down on any other type of hunters.

And anyone that runs them down and strangles them with their bare hands can look down on the spear hunters.

Sorry, that is just how its gonna have to be.

Yes sir.

You are one level above the spear guys, several levels above the recurve guys and of course below the guy that runs them down and chokes them out with a UFC move.

We all got to know where we stand.

"I tackled my first deer and killed it with a knife...can I be a snob?"

Did you make the knife yourself? Metal blade or stone?...... Terry

"And I am working on my americana, omaplata, and "rear naked choke" for next time....

Didn't that "rear naked choke" move originate in San Francisco?... Terry

I responded to a post on this very same thing a couple of years ago. It all sounds awesome and completely Primitive using an Atlatl.

....But....

The more research I found, the more MODERN it got! I found info showing that some are using Carbon Fiber Spears etc and other modern "Enhancements."

Regardless of the technology (or lack there of) though, it does sound like it would be a pretty cool way to take a deer - Other than the UFC Tapout of course! ;)

?-ERock-> ?

I read in one of the magazine about a guy who hunts barefoot, Not me I have to have socks and boots. If it will give me more time in the wood Give me a spear. LOL

I'm not sure about now, but in years passed we could hunt with a spear here in Bama. Never knew anyone that actually did, but it was legal for awhile.
