Polaris is by far the smoothest riding of any ATV. Honda is probabally a little less maintanence. I have had 2 polaris' and one honda, and one yamaha. I have a polaris now and wouldn't have anything else.

Be careful about using the words atv and hunting in the same sentance on this site. Haahaaa.. I have Hondas and swear by them. I dont use them for hunting but for play and work around the old ranch. I have had Polaris snowmobiles and they were fantastic. Either way you go, Honda and Polaris are top knotch rides it all depends on what features you want. I like the fact that you can get the bigger model Hondas with manual transmissions. As far as Polaris, they are automatic. One of my buddies has a diesel powered Polaris quad. It is pretty cool. Both are good choices.

Before you go psycho on someones ATV consider something; I took mine off trail to save someones life. Granted that situation is one in a million chance, but what if your "eye for an eye" attitude sabatoged a rescue effort, especially involving that persons family member.
Try to set aside your usual smart a$$ response, though I generally find them entertaining, and think about it objectively.
As for someone blatantly going off trail for kicks, have at it.

HONDA IS BULLET PROOF, BUT PRICE IS HIGH. I SOLD MY HONDA RECON TO GET A 4 WHEEL DRIVE MODEL. DOLLAR PER FEATURE YOU CANNOT BEAT THE ARTIC CAT. I BOUGHT ONE, THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION ARE THEIR DESIGN AND THE ENGINE IS SUZUKI. I LOVE IT. I SPENT TWO WEEKS ON IT AND THE SUSPENSION IS VERY PLUSH. IT'S A 2000 MODEL AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL. IT HAS HIGH, LOW, AND SUPER LOW RANGE, IN-N-OUT 4X4, EASILY ACCESSED REVERSE, FAR SUPERIOR SUSPENSION THAN HONDA OR ANY OF THEM DUE TO NO SWAY BARS. ALWAYS STARTS FIRST TIME, EVEN AT 12 DEGREES F. MINE IS A 300, I WOULD RECOMMEND THE 400, NOT FOR POWER, JUST CENTER OF GRAVITY. THE ENGINE ON MINE IS IN THE REAR, NOT EVER NOTICABLE UNTIL YOU HAVE A PASSENGER OR AN ANIMAL ON BORED. NOT SAYING THEY ARE THE BEST, BUT THEY HAVE ALOT OF POSITIVE QUALITIES, AND ALL THE OPTIONS.

completly camo cover, front and back racks With cargo bags, front gun/ bow rack, an complet extra set of wheels and tires, bran new, the knobest tires i've ever seen.
hand guards/sheilds, air pump, winch/ W 200ft 3/32 304 stainless 1x19 std core wire rope (1200lbs.)it's also running that new carbon exaust muffler addon which makes it vertualy silent,
4 wd shift on the fly. and a few more bell and whistles.

now i is one.

The only quads I use in hunting are the the quads in my legs. There is too much of a stigma now because of the idiots that abuse them. It's too bad that the 80% that abuse the land and laws with them have to ruin it for the 20% that are obeying the laws and using them ethically.
I just prefer to hike and backpack anyway. If I were to use motorcycles for hunting, I would have to say that Honda would be the most reliable and best quality. I know some guys that use them and swear by them.

Rubicon 500 Hondomatic transmissions are the S$it. I got two last year and love them. They shift like a car or push button. The range and reverse lever is smooth and positive. There are no belts in the transmission either. Ya they don't have independent rear or disc brakes, but the compression is so good you don't need them brakes. It will go where the Bobcat don't want it for sure and will pull big spray rigs through the fields all day. Bobcat don't pounce, I agree with you.

Honda costs more if you have repairs.... I have been on both machines and I think for the money the ride is the most important. They both will take you where you want to go, so do you want to get there in comfort or just get there.
