First time on pravhant mountain

I live in salina but never hunted the pravhant mountain always hunted fishlake or manti just asking if anyone knows the best spot to hunt on pravhant

This is what the biologist has to say about it:

The Pahvant has many steep and rugged areas. There are large ridges with steep canyons dividing them. There is a main road across the top of the mountain with few ATV trails. Most of the ATV trails will be found on the southern half of the unit. There are some ATV trails that start in low elevation areas and go part way up several canyons. Many of the canyons have hiking trails that can help in accessing areas away from main roads. The hunting pressure will drastically decrease after opening weekend.

The large majority of the elk will be found on the West side of the unit. Bulls can be found all the way from Ebbs canyon on the North to Dog valley and Three creeks on the South. On this late hunt especially plan to spend a lot of time using optics in order to locate elk. The bulls will be mostly solitary or in small groups and can be tough to find.

Safety Considerations
The Pahvant is steep; especially where you're going to find the elk. Be physically prepared for intense hiking and know your own physical limitations.

There should be plenty of locals in Salina that can help you out. The late season will probably have you hunting the lower country as the elk are usually transitioning toward the winter range that time of year. Focus on the mid range of the mountains above Holden, Fillmore, Meadow or down further South above Kanosh, dog valley areas. Those would be some good starting points for you. If I were you, I would go learn the areas now so you have a good lay of the land and access points prior to your hunt. If can be super steep and rugged country on the late hunt, and some of those areas are very thick as well. Do some scouting of the areas and get used to the stuff you will be hunting.

Good luck!

Find a road and go. I hunt the Pahvant pretty much every year for deer. There's no secret places. The deer (and elk) are where they are. Ride around and glass. Find some trails, do some hiking and glass. It's that simple.

Serious though, Ticks N Tines gave some good advice. Move around a lot and glass mid elevations until your eyes bleed. Good luck.
