First elk shed

My wife spotted this today while we were driving down the mountain. It was laying just off the road on the edge of an opening in the aspens. She said, "elk antler", and I caught a glimpse. When I backed up and looked, there it was plain as day. I don't know how someone else had not seen it. I think the extra green around it due to all the rain made it stand out more. Anyway, we were both happy she spotted it. I think my exitement for having my/our first elk antler since moving to CO last year made her the happiest.

Looks great! Your wife may have been the first one to see it as an antler and not an aspen branch. Did you check around for the other side?

Your likely right on the Aspen branch. I've drove through there at least twice in the last couple weeks and haven't noticed it and It was there the whole time. Yes, I did look around briefly to see if the other was close by, but it was raining pretty steady and I had a vehicle full of a tired family. I may check the area out again in the next couple weeks though

congratulations to your wife...terrific 'find'...they're all 'good', but the first one is the 'best'...thanks for sharin' it...

cool and congrats!

finding an easy "road antler", as I call them, now and then feels gooood :)

now that you know a bull (or bulls) is wintering around there, you know it's a place worth looking come first week April '08!

good luck

I would prefer to find him on the mountain somewhere in September and never give him the chance to shed another set, but what are the chances of that!

that's one helluva first elk shed! Congrats to you and your family for a job well done! Good luck with many more to come!
