first elk of season and more!

3/31/5...got a nice little 4x5 set. Also found this large wolf track in a different area that is one of my favorite elk haunts (not this year though)LOL! Also found this bear track and thought it was kinda big...it's the size of my whole hand with fingers spread. What do you guys think..small griz or big blackie?

Cool pics! I love how the elk stick their antler in the ground and it prys off.
I'd say the track is from a black bear only because the claws are close to the toes and the print points straight ahead. I haven't seen too many grizzly tracks, but trailhead signs show the claw marks being far ahead of the paw and the animal walks pigeon toe.

With my inate ability so often see overlooked details, I'd say the wolf and bear are smokers. I'd listen for the coughing and you may be able to locate them. Nice elk shed.

Ya Berto....3/31 is the earliest I've ever found elk...think it's just a tad early but it's starting to happen. Hope to do better on elk cause I sure can't find any deer this year.....later
