Ok, list up your favorite technologies/gadgets that you could never, ever part with. Let's give it a time frame of the past 15 years or so.

Here's mine:

1- Internet (Couldn't imagine life without MM, GoogleEarth, etc)
2- DVR
3- Satellite TV
4- DSLR camera
5- DeWalt Drill

I have to carry a phone for work and have a Blackberry and it's been by far the best phone I've owned. But I basically hate cell phones though and wouldn't even care if mine disappeard forever.

Can't wait to see what you all enter. I'm imagining some stuff related to scopes, bows, trailcams, gps, etc.

Late,

TRH

Kilo and Eel are away from their computers but they asked if I could post "Fire" and the "wheel" for them....lol

1. The George Forman Grill
2. FREE internet porn
3. Viagra
4. Smoke Assist
5. Sham-Wow

Life would be horrible without any of these quality items.

This doesn't fall within the time frame, but I'm old enough to remember when trucks and cars didn't have air conditioning. I bet most of us wouldn't get in very much pre-season scouting without it. Especially for antelope. Good drugs for our poor old aching bodies are nice, too.

internet......excellent way to start a fight and live to tell about it....I'm still using windows 95.... HEHEHEHE....

If you wouldn't take the Viagra you wouldn't need the internet porn or sham-wow. Haha

Eel and Kilo only wanted Snort to mention fire and the wheel because of their contributions to those inventions. Kinda self promoting if ya ask me.

I hope you are joking!
An electronic Yahtze game has more useful value than a range finder!

Nickman, I agree to disagree with you otherwise i'd have to call you a idiot and i don't want to do that. :)

That was, still is, my opinion by the way.

OK.....Guess I'll play along.....name calling and all.

If you NEED a range finder to get it done, you don't know what you are doing and you need more field experience.....weather I am an idiot or not.

You are a piss poor shooter if you have to depend on one, to tell how far away something is inside 70 yards bowhunting and 400 yards with your rifle.

Sages' reply speaks volumes.

By the way that is MY opinion.

Wow! For you to say something like that..."speaks volumes"

A bowhunter has no, NONE, -0-, business, IMO, shooting at game at 60-70 yds without using a rangefinder, period!

A rifle hunter shooting a 30-06 at a once in a lifetime buck he thinks is 400 yds will miss or cripple it if that buck is nearer to 500yd.

Yes, a guy with experience can make shots like these without a RF but that is where being lucky comes into play. Even with all the thousands of rounds i've spent down range in my day and near 100 big game animals taken, I prefer to limit the amount of luck in my shooting.

I read distance pretty good as they go from years of practice but not as good as i thought i could when compared to my RF. I choose to actually know the distance by use of a RF rather than guess at it. I pack a spotting scope as well but if to choose, i'd rather leave my spotter than my Range finder!

Anybody who is against the use of rangefinders in bow and rifle hunting is, is,... a dinosaur!

Edit: Gator, lets hear it, do you use a rangefinder? How about you other guys, do you use them and does that make you a piss poor hunter because so? Post em up!!

Joey

So Nickman, you are always dead on +/- 5 yards of judging distance out to 70? If you say yes than I call BullChit!

LAST EDITED ON May-30-11 AT 00:14AM (MST)[p]No....I didn't say that at all, but are you telling me that YOUR equipment/skill is that critical at +/- 5 yards, inside 70 yards......then I'll call BullChit. No wonder you stick flickers wound so much chit!

I know 20 guys who bowhunt, that have never hunted with a rangefinder. Compared to the other 20 guys I know that do use them, there isn't any noticable difference in success rates.

It is just another tool......like training wheels on bicycles, some guys need them, some guys don't.

Again, that is just my opinion.....but one of you called me an idiot, another calls my opinion BullChit and another guy has penis envy....funny stuff here, don't weaken on me now!

"whackin' a surly bartender ain't much of a crime"

Nickman, i won't weaken bud. You say someone called you a idiot? Read this, "Nickman, I agree to disagree with you otherwise i'd have to call you a idiot and i don't want to do that."

I didn't then call you a idiot, i was just checking, but the shoe now seems to be fitting so you might as well wear it...and it was you, by the way, that called me and my opinion out in the first place! No? Go back and read it again!! You seen to again have a problem with my posts as you really do like to call me out a lot but then you get mad. What's up with that? Thought we were behind all that crap!

Also, You must remember saying about guys that use range finders being "piss poor hunters"? Boy, you stepped in it on that one! LOL

Joey

Oh come on Nickman don't turn this into a "slam the bowhunters" discussion..

If you don't believe that rangefinders are a big help to bow hunters then you should attend an unmarked 3D shoot..It can be a very humbling experience at least on a few of the targets..

There's a reason most of the most successful bow hunters in the world hunt with them...

LAST EDITED ON May-30-11 AT 03:19AM (MST)[p]A RF is like any other piece of hunting equipment. I would consider a RF no less important than your rifle scope or shooting sticks. Together, they simplify our lives in the field and increase our success at taking game quickly and efficiently. It's simply a matter of personal preference.

Eldorado

OK, on a personal level I grew up in the poison oak patches of NW Kali. If you could see a buck you could hold right on and kill it. A RF was about as useless as a Swarovski spotting scope.

Then I started hunting out of state for pronghorn. When I get out in the wide open country I'm totally lost as far as yardage goes. Is it 300 yards or is it 500 yards? How the heck would I know? I used to pass up shots because I had no clue of the range. Or I would take a shot, miss, and wonder why.

Last year I hunted deer in Wyoming with my RF. I spent a lot of time guessing the range of deer and pronghorns and then checking with my RF. Every time I underestimated the range. Sometimes as much as 200 yards. I would guess 400 and it would be 600. Totally due to my lack of experience in open country.

I could live without a RF, but they sure are cool! If I KNOW an animal is at a certain range, it does wonders for my confidence.

Last time Eel was this excited over new technology, Kilo quickly realized the money making opportunity.

Sage......I seriously doubt that I am mad about this.....actually laughing about it, and loving the reparte'!

The thread asked for an opinion....you gave yours. I gave mine and you called me an "idiot". Others added insults as well, so I just rolled with the flow. It's a hoot!

I had a long response all typed out, but I have helped hijack this thread long enough. Lets just agree that I am an obnoxious azz, even an "idiot", if you like.

"some people could not be more full of chit, if they were twice their size"

Nickman, hopefully you're not referring to me as adding an insult... That was not my intent, just a friendly discussion.. Anyway have a great Memorial Day..

It was a big bodied 2 point.

Wow, this has turned into quite the discussion. I thought people would bash me for the Internet comment because it's been around longer than that. Oh well!

Anyways, remembered another item that's pretty freaking handy that I'd had to do without...my Simms Goretex Waders.

Sorry Nickman. I love my rangefinder built into my Binos.

Toilet paper.

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Got a RF and a big gun and lots of bullets, I keep shooting until I run out bullets or get tired, But I ALWAYS have a good time.
RF did to archery what rifle scopes did for rifles for hunting.
