Alright...after reading the thread about favorite hunting music I must admit I didn't own any Chris LeDoux music. So I went out and bought his Classic Music and DVD album and really liked it. Which brings me to my question...what is your favorite Chris LeDoux song(s).

I like Life Is A Highway & Stampede, and I really like Cowboy Hat. How about you?

Grizzly Hunter

Cabello Diablo (Devil Horse) One of my favorites for sure.

I have his box set, I like them all! But, This Old Hat is my favorite.

PRO

Define, develop, and sustain BOTH trophy and opportunity hunts throughout the state of Utah.

I second Cabiallo Diablo, with This old Cowboy hat 2nd. Hard to beat stampede too! Copenhagen angel, where do I stop? I miss his concerts!

Favorite songs? Maybe not, but Bareback Jack and Copenhagen have always had a catchy tune and fun.

One of my top 5 CD's is "Whatcha Gonna Do With A Cowboy"....not a bad song on it. "River Boat Gambler" is a catchy song. Stampede is one of his best as mentioned before. Gonna miss him.

"The Buffalo Grass" on Horsepower album
"Song of Wyoming" on Cowboy album
"Silence on the Line" on Cowboy album

I like his more mellow, stripped down songs better than the country-rock ones.

When I was just a very young lad I walked up and I told my dad
A bareback rider's what I wanna be I want the whole world to know about me
In the rodeo arena I'll take my stand I wanna be known as a rodeo man
I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high
Chaps and boots reachin' for the sky
Spurrin' wild with my head throw'd back
You'll ask whose that well that's Bareback Jack
You'll ask whose that well that's Bareback Jack

The years of boyhood now have passed
It didn't take long to learn the tricks real fast
Now I'm goin' down the road with my rodeo gear
And I hope to make the finals in just a few years
And when my chance comes I'll give it a whirl
Try to win the championship of the world
I'll come flyin' from the chutes with my spurs up high
Chaps and boots reachin' for the sky
Spurrin' a wild with my head flung back
You'll all know me I'm Bareback Jack
You'll all know me I'm Bareback Jack

Well here I am I'm a layin' in bed
The son of a buck jumped onto my head
I'm a-layin' here dyin' and a hurtin' real bad
Now I wish I'd listened to my old dad
When he said son you'd better quit foolin' around
You're gonna get your guts stomped into the ground
You'll come flyin' from the chute with your tail up high
That old buckin' horse is gonna throw ya in the sky
When you come down you're gonna break your back
Then we'll all know you as Old Crippled Up Jack
And that'll be all for ol' Bareback Jack! :)

Grizzz...
You ask the imossible.
Even Chris' BAD songs kick a$$.
Western Country at it's finest.
He was truely a great guy, down to earth, self-made, the world is a bit colder place without him.
If you can find his earlyest stuff and listen, you'll feel like I do.
Paint me back home in Wyoming
Sweet Wyoming home
The old Double Diamond... hey, that is an Ian Tyson song!
If you love LeDoux, you will also love Tyson... an Alberta cowboy/song guy.
Lately one of my FAVorite songs is Garth Brooks' Saddle's gett'n Cold, that live version.
Good stuff that yer kids can listen to.

When I was little, my step dad turned me onto Chris' music by sitting around the living room. He would pick his guitar and sing all of his greates rodeo songs. To do this day, as much as I love Chris' version of it, it is Bill's voice that I hear whenever I hear Yellow Outlaw Stud. As I grew older, particularly once I was driving, all my friends had Metallica, and other metal in the CD player. My choice was always Chris. I was fortunate to see him in concert 8 times, and it never got old. He had a way of changing it up everytime that kept you wanting to see him again. My favorite of his, though all are great, is Seventeen. That song really sums up what growing up and moving on is all about. We bought the Cars movie for my daughter when she was three, and she loves Life is a Highway, but I quickly turned her from Rascal Flats' version to the best version, which undoubtably is Chris'. She listens to it in the pickup with me everytime we go somewhere. Chris is the singe most underrated country musician of all time in my opinion. I miss not hearing new stuff from him.

"success Is Reason Enough!"

First off..........name me a BAD Chris Ledoux song!

And secondly, I agree with Elkabong...Ian Tyson has some great stuff!

Only you old guys will remember his "Ian & Sylvia" days when he REALLY sucked!

Bang a Drum
Western Skies
Buffalo Grass
The Ride

I'm also a late comer to CL. After he died lots of guys on MM spoke so highly of him and his music so I bought some. Now own everything he has put out.

LAST EDITED ON May-11-08 AT 07:01AM (MST)[p]WOW!!! Apparently I just scratched the surface of how deep Chris LeDoux's music is when I bought my "first" LeDoux CD last week.

I had no idea how enjoyable he is to listen to, and how passionate the members of this forum are about him. His music puts me in a simpler more genuine time without all of today's distractions.

Time to go (to the music store for more LeDoux). :)

Grizzly Hunter

All you guys have mentioned some great songs! One of my all time faves is "It ain't the years it's the miles".

LAST EDITED ON May-11-08 AT 10:52AM (MST)[p]That's a great one OL, along with Ten Seconds in the Saddle...
Same type of message.
nickman,
We can forget Ian & Sylvia fer sure!!
If a guy picked up Ian's, say... "I Outgrew the Wagon", they'd see what I'm talk'n about, Willis...

Moonlight...
Same thing. "the group" would be out at the dunes or Moab or where ever (in my early days) partying around a campfire with Devo or some such crapp blaring away... I'd stick in a Ledoux tape 'an they'd get pissed!

HEY AWLB!!!

I MENTIONED ABOVE ALSO LIKING THE: THERES A FIVE DOLLAR FINE FOR WHINNING!!!

JUST WONDERING IF YOU'VE EVER HAD TO PLAY IT FOR ANY OF YOUR CLIENTS,LOL!!!

If LeDoux sang it I liked it, All are my favorites and man if you ever got to one of his concerts and chuck Copenhagen at him, ahh good times. My opinion is that he had some of the greatest shows ever

Favorite songs that stick out

Copenhagen
Copenhagen Junkie
Copenhagen Angel
Bareback Jack
The ride
The passenger
This cowboys hat
Too many to list

If you liked Ledoux Check out this Old bands CD
Western Underground Unbridled I think its a pretty good Cd, but just not the same without Chris

The Ride

"This old man whispered a few soft words
It's the best advise I ever heard:
Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high
Keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky
And live like you ain't afraid to die
And don't be scared,
Just enjoy your ride"

Chris LeDoux sure lived his life on his own terms.

Another great song is "Silence on the Line". What a great song when you actually listen to it!

Grizzly Hunter

Oakbuck, you quoted the exact lyrics I was going to. Love that song. There are not bad Chris Ledoux songs. I saw him in concert at the Reno rodeo after the liver transplant and he put on one of the best shows I've seen.

One of my personal faves has to be Look at you girl. I put together a slideshow for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding that included that one and it really gets me.

WESTERN UNDERGROUND ALBUM- favorite album

Powder River Home

They are all great! I have lots of favorite Chris Ledoux songs. I only got to see him once, at the Del Mar fair in 98. I wish I could have seen a few more of his concerts.

CL was one of the best ever. I think I teared up when my old rodeo partner called and told me he's had just died. I think i've seen him 8-9 times all at rodeos I entered. He use to play the "local" rodeos before he met up with Garth the Dipstick Brooks. . .

"Any of them before he hooked up with that homo Garth Brooks."

agreed. . .

Garth Brooks sucks just like Kyle Busch. Cannot stand that fat camel-toe wearing queer. What a weenie!;-)
