mountainman, yes Daisy is a full blooded lab but has not shown any symptoms of hip dysplasia. Not yet anyways. Many of the bigger dog breeds have this problem, including German Shepards, Golden Retrievers, Mastiffs, St. Bernards or any dog with any size. When your dogs are two years old you are eligible to get them x-rayed and certified as hip dysplasia free. You want to go to a reputable dog breeder whose breeder male and female are "Hip Certified". That way your chances of getting a dog with hip dysplasia are greatly reduced. Also, try to avoid letting your dog to jump into and out of the back of your truck or up and down on your bed, especially older dogs. If your dog has the disease then this kind of activity will help dysplasia to show its ugly face.
If you are looking for a lab to be an antler dog, I know somebody who breeds them for horn hunting down in St. George, Utah. Be aware that hip certified dogs cost a little more money. fatrooster.
