it kind of looks like a fungal growth (not that i would know what that looks like) :)

thanks for sharing...now where did i put that athlete's foot spray?

Haven't put a tape to it. What a wacky antler. I've seen a mule deer rack that had the same kind of antler malformation on it too. Thought you antler nuts would enjoy it!

Yeah I have seen a shed like that I am from NM and elk that have two main beems or deformaties like that are not that uncommon but dang it that is a great shed how much did he pay for that? thanks for the pic.

That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I blame it on El Ninno! Great Find.

I once saw a non typical with similar oddities. The bull had taken a brow tine to the nasal cavity the previous years rut, leaving an open wound. His other side was completley typical.

Just my $.02 here but I think the bull ripped the side of the antler open in velvet and as it oozed out it was hard enough so that it wouldn't drip off and eventually solidified. I'm thinking this because none of the formations ever even try to turn into points. That's my theory anyway. I bet you money he won't do it this year though.

That's is pretty freakin' awesome looking. Have seen similiar characteristics over the years. My theory on the ones I've seen is the antler gets damaged in the velvet and flys get in the wound and lay eggs. Antler grows around the Larvae and make the odd shapes.

Great looking antler!
Awesome photo's too that show us every perspective.

Wouldn't mind finding one of those on the hoof, if ya knows what I mean!
