Elk Tags?

I have been on the Idaho F&G website trying to find info. on non-resident elk tags. I mainly hunt in my home state of Nevada and my chances of drawing a bull tag any time soon is very slim. Anyways, I would like the chance to kill any branch anlered bull. Would I be better off putting in for a draw unit or can I purchase a tag over the counter? What is the difference between an A and B hunt?I would like to plan something for 2009 if possible. Thanks for any advise.

Looks like there are still plenty of non-res elk tags available. Many of the northern Idaho zones are sold out but seems south central idaho is wide open with plenty of general tags left. Thats where I'd prefer to hunt these days anyway.

You've got an excellent shot to kill a bull in general units in Idaho....Despite what you hear about wolves, there are still tons of elk in this state...... But to answer your question, yeah of course it's better to draw a controlled tag. But I sure as hell don't wait around to draw when good opportunity exists in general hunts.

Generally speaking....the A tags favor short range weapons and the B tags are for Rifle hunters.....it varies but look at the zone map and regs for each zone....

All the info can be accessed on the IDFG main hunting page.....

Thank you for the info. gemstatejake!
