Im very curious when the elk shed in different Western (and I guess now Eastern) states. I know there are always exceptions but on "average" when do the 330+ bulls in your area begin dropping? In western Mt thats the first week of April (average)

they're gonna start droppin' here in washington any day now, i hope...then i'm headin' to montana...

Generally in Washington its about the first week of April, but some gentleman have been finding some awesome bone already, not to mention any names. ; )

I usually don't get too excited until April around the first week. I've seen 3 big mature bulls packing hard horn as late as May 10th a few years ago. Kinda like whitetail...I've found em as early as Dec.23 and saw one last week still packing...

utah450 is right, they are dropping early in Utah. So far we have found 6 brown and some of them are 300 class bulls. Its usually the end of march when we start finding that size. Hopefully the extra couple weeks of growth will mean some monster bulls this fall.

Im in Central Idaho and tonight I saw 7 bulls, all packing. One was a nice 300+ bull and the rest were ok 5 and 6 points. Usually elk start dropping around here in early to mid April. Two of the bulls were fighting pretty good and nothing fell off so it might be a while. The grass is starting to green and I have heard that has an effect on the elk dropping. Anybody else heard of that?
