Elk refuge draw odds for elk

Myself and another have always drawn the last elk hunt on the refuge. Several times on separate apps. This year neither of us drew. I was surprised. Did they decrease permits? No one there could give me the odds. Could we have gone 10 for 10 then 0 for 2? Possible but unlikely.

They increased and extended the archery only area to the entire western boundary in response to a hunter’s stray bullet hitting a parked vehicle during last year’s hunt. More hunters likely applied for the later hunts due to decreased land available to hunt. You might be able to call Game and Fish directly and ask about the refuge hunt odds. Still some great elk hunting available in other areas.

Thanks, I called Jackson G&F and headquarters no one had odds. I did not know they changed the rifle area, never looked since we did not draw. That might explain the change in odds. Also eliminating the "car line waiting" day permits a couple years ago and changing it to a lottery - then eliminating them altogether might have had an effect.

email for the data. With some changes this year there are several reports that they no longer post or have recreated.
Give them a detailed explanation of exactly what you are looking for.

I emailed them. Also I checked an the archery only area is not a lot bigger.
It is substantially bigger now. All the western boundary from the creek all along highway 89 going South is all archery only along with the same area by parking lots. Basically all those elk you see while driving along next to the highway are all in the archery only area now. See map in dark green.

This is correct, especially considering the map Mr Google posted and the fact the new "archery only" area was limited range weapons anyway.

I would trust the refuge info! They only added a sliver of land to archery from rifle.
Not sure how you define a sliver of land. When you are hunting on an Elk Refuge even 40 acres might be substantial but in this case they added a substantial amount for an elk refuge hunt. I have a mere 40 acre piece and have seen upwards of 100 elk on it at times, maybe that’s just a sliver of elk to you.

If you want to form other opinions try yahoo or bing.

You are breaking all records for being the biggest hunting forum troll of all time. Is that what got you booted from HT?

Maybe I should google it?

Those elk get pushed all over. I have been there every year for 6 or 7 years. They will cover miles every day because of being pushed. If I rifle hunted there it would not affect my decision at all. The elk on that area will get pushed into (or have come off of) an area that is still rifle.

The Red Circle is about 500 acres that’s where you are now missing out in some prime hunting as those elk now cross from the Golf Course through the increased acreage for archery. That was a former gold mine that now no longer exists for rifle hunters.

This is the map from before the 2021 change as you can see the limited range weapons never took away the archery acreage which increased dramatically, all along the Western boundary and took about 500 acres of prime Rifle hunting away. Next time try googling it before you show us what a Clown we already knew you were. Pathetic.

I finally found the elk map from before the 2021 archery increase and now the western boundary is all archery but back then it was substantially smaller as I noted above except I could only find the bison map.

Ha ha, this doesn't get more real! You try and prove your point with the Bison Map!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: @DonVathome was right when he said it wasn't a big change. You might also want to put on your reading glasses, the whole western border is not archery.

Do you post just to start arguments?

You are not very good at reading comprehension or posting factual information. I posted the correct Elk map above, see the post above this one, old outdated maps are hard to find but I eventually found it, bedsides it proves the same information you posted as Misinformation. “and the fact the new "archery only" area was limited range weapons anyway.” A BIG FAIL, the usual source of Misinformation around here as usual.:eek::cool::eek::cool::eek::devilish::devilish:

Smoke and mirrors as usual.

Answer the question; Is the whole western border of the refuge archery?

Even most elementary kids would understand what GoHunt was saying. The elk refuge isn’t exactly a perfect square shaped refuge. I’d explain it to you but I don’t have the time nor the CRAYONS big enough for that.

I got the moose in AK, 50 miles in, solo. It was WORK. 1 full day to butcher and 2.5 days of packing, nonstop, to a runway I cleared on a ridge. Thank goodness my pilot was able to land there! 63" spread shot at 30 yards with a rifle. Can't say who I flew with for a few more years sworn to secrecy.
