I drew unit 7, never been in that country before I was just wondering what size to expect to see. I will be there for two weeks for archery and like to do backcountry diy. I hope I did right by using all of my pp.

Good unit with quite a few elk the archery hunt is bettere IMO as the elk are still on Public land when rifle rolls around it just seems the bigger herds are on private ground.

There are a few guys on this site that hunted the unit recently they might chime in to give ya some pointers.

Do a search in this forum for Unit 7 Wyoming Elk. There is a lot of info in many posts over the past couple of years. GOOD LUCK. Chip

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-09 AT 10:19AM (MST)[p]I think it's one of the best units in Wy. Congrats on the tag!

There are some really big bulls in area 7. There is a ton of country, but a ton of private land as well. Hitting it during the archery season would be best. Like was already said once rifles start going they know right where the private is. If you are willing to pay there are plenty of places willing to take your money in that unit.

Trophy quality is down, lots of elk on private.

High trespass fees are common.

Too many elk tags given, which in turn puts increased pressure on the public land and pushes elk onto private early in the rifle season...and also during archery season.

You could get lucky and find a decent bull on public, but I wouldnt be passing any bull over 320 if I had that tag and had to hunt on public.

Good luck.

thank you for the info. Also wanted to know what to expect for weather in the middle of sept.

Also drew for unit 7. I was planning on rifle but from the posts I have read it sounds like I better start practicing with a bow! Anyone ever paid a trespass fee to a rancher in the area? What is average fee without a guide? or is all of the ground leased. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
