Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

Two capable Non-Resident hunters have Elk Tags for unit 97 for 2018 season. Looking for resident willing to hunt with us for a few days to get into Bridger Wilderness Area.

We are hunting from September 29 to October 7th. If you can only hunt for two or three days that would be great. We are willing to help with expenses and/or, help/accompany someone with Alaska DIY Moose or Black Bear hunt in return for hunting with us.

As a resident you do not need a tag, just be willing to accompany us into the area.

Anyone with info on the area would be helpful too.

Thank You for looking.

You need to look at the Wyoming requirements a little better. A resident has to sign G&F paperwork attesting to the fact that they are not taking any compensation for guiding up to two people in a calendar year into a designated wilderness area and they also have to have a big game or trophy hunting license, but not for the particular area they take you in. Good luck on your hunt and finding someone to help you and here is the statute:

STATUTORY AUTHORITY:
Wyoming Statute ? 23-2-401 (b).
Any resident possessing a valid resident big or trophy game animal license may apply for and receive a resident guide license. The resident guide license shall be issued without charge or bond by the commission, any district supervisor or resident game warden upon receipt of an affidavit from the resident stating the names and addresses of the nonresident hunters to be guided, the game to be hunted, the area to be hunted, and that the resident has not received nor will accept directly or indirectly any compensation for his services as a guide. A resident guide shall not guide more than two (2)nonresident hunters in any calendar year on any national forest, wilderness area, national game refuge, or national park, except as provided in W.S. 23-2-401, nor shall he accept any compensation or gratuity for his services. An exchange of guide services shall not be considered compensation for the purposes of this section. The name and license number of the nonresident hunter shall be placed on the back of the resident guide license and stamped or signed by the issuer.

Why can't they have a license in the same area? I don't read it that way in the regs....perhaps it is stated somewhere else.

He is not saying it can't be for the same area but rather that it doesn't have to be for the same area.

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

That is correct, the non resident does have to fill out the paperwork for a free assistant guide license, but they do not need an elk tag, and they do not need to Buy a license. Our compensation will be to the extent allowed by law, and we will make ourselves available to help them hunt other states where possible.

I have already had conversations with Wyoming Game & Fish personnel regarding this issue and they agree that a resident can assist us in the Wilderness area after filling out the free paperwork.

Thank You for your comments and helping to be sure we are on the right track.

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

I'll be sure to call the Wyoming Game & Fish to clarify the need/not need of the resident to purchase a hunting license.

All you need to do is read the statute SLOWLY and CAREFULLY that is in my post that was C/Pd right out of the Regulations, as there is no need to call the G&F. You obviously didn't read it or if you did you didn't comprehend all it says in there based on your followup posts. The resident guide not only has to have a big game or trophy game license for that year for anywhere in the state, but they also can't be compensated in any way for doing it. You can help them in AK, but you can't offer to pay any of their expenses like you stated you would in your post and that's exactly why I made my first post trying to keep you from violating the law.

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated. We?re just trying to expand our hunting range and establish relationships with like minded people.

No problem and you'll find if you spend some time on here there are a lot of great guys that will be able to offer you help and plenty of valuable information. Have a good hunt and be safe out there!

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

You are aware the resident has to be with you the whole time in the wilderness? They can't just take you in and leave you similar to a drop camp

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

Wyoming guides association welfare law. Federal land, bought and paid for by all..It needs to be challenged again and again, until it goes away...Bh1

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

Thank You TopGun for your info. It is my first time on any of these chat rooms. Hope we can find someone willing to hunt with us, although I realize this is asking quite a bit unless someone is already planning to go there at the same time.

Anyways, Thanks Much!

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

Yes mntnguide, we do know they have to be with us the whole time. We?re counting on it actually. Yes our goal is to get us into the wilderness area (if even for only 2 or 3 days), but also to establish a relationship with that person and maybe hunt other states together, etc. What better way to do that than to spend a few days in the bush with another hunter.

If you know of anyone we'd love to hear from them.

Thank You for your input.

Federal law says that a state can control the hunting by NRs any way they want to and, therefore, they can make that law and there is absolutely nothing we can do since the Legislature passed it and not the G&F. We are just lucky that there is so much legal public land to hunt on and that Wyoming is probably the most NR friendly state with the exception of that stupid law.

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted

Thanks DW,

Well, if you're interested keep in touch. Always looking for a guy that's resourceful, good with knife, can shoot, pack, and likes to have a good time. Doesn?t matter if you can help with this Wyo hunt or not. Everybody has something to offer....maybe they have good hunting where you live and we can work it out from that angle.

If you want to discuss further you can pm me and maybe get something going.

Thank You for the response!

For some reason I can't find it. I'm sure it's because I'm not looking in the right place, but I didn't get a notification and can't find where to look.

Apologize for the ignorance.

Click on FORUMS at the top of the page and it will take you back to the main page. When that comes up just look up to the top right area and you'll see INBOX. Click on that and his message will come up. I see DW beat me to the punch as I was typing. You can get to it that way too, but my way will probably be what you'll want to do since you will be reading these and need to get back to the main page the way I mentioned.

RE: Elk Hunting Partner Wanted
