Eight per pound is too high...especially with the craft market in the dumper...he would prolly be better off to sort them into brown, hard white, and chalk...and sell in three lots. Might find someone that would pay 5-6 for the brown and 3 or so for the hard white and maybe 50 cents for the chalkers.

that's my two cents...:)

I agree. I haven't seen elk antlers go for $8 a pound in years. (though maybe I'm getting ripped off) I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who will pay 8 bucks especially for a mixed lot.

In the past, I have sold directly to a western art company who makes craft/art stuff out of antler and got a little better than market price but they only wanted my unbroken browns. It may help you get a dollar or two more a pound. But, they guy I sold to currently has all his employees laid off because no one is buying his stuff right now. Needless to say, he's not buying antler either.

Like toughshed said, divide them and get the best price you can for each lot.

That is the thing they are all fresh sheds none have layed on the ground for more than a day maybe two, my dad had an elk ranch and these are the horns off the ranch bulls they arnt the best in color because they didnt have anyting to rub on so no hard white or chalk horns in this pile

its ones that never rubbed or we cut them off so they wouldn't kill each other. They are ranch antlers. i would say they are as fresh as the get just no color

Probably your best bet would be to find a company that uses elk antler to make their product. You have enough that they would probably be willing to cut out the middle man. The trick is to find a company that needs that much antler right now, and even if you do, you probably still won't get $8 per pound out of them. Have you thought about craigslist or possibly like a sportsman's expo or something? I'm sure there is someone who would want them, you just have to find them.

If they don't have any color then someone is going to have to color them to make them look natural...and that means a lower price.

People get attached to their antlers and think they are worth more than they really are. Take them to a reputable buyer and he'll make you an offer. Take the offer...and enjoy the cash.

ebay the really big nice sets... youll get some good money there maybe. or start a new hobby and make stuff out of them and try to sell them you cant sell the stuff then looks like you could make yourself enough candeleirs and lamps and coffee tables to deck out the local marriot hotel. haha

So?

If you have 2,000 pounds you must have several more piles of bone?

I don't care if they're big or small!
If they throw lead I like em all!
