Give me some numbers for optimal elevation for mule deer. I have recently checked my good spots and they range from about 6500 ft to 7000. Anyone find any deer sheds any higher than that?
Everything I find is between 7000 and 7300 feet. I would think different types of habitat, highways, people pressure, and many more things determine where bucks shed?? Good question...
best for me is between 3500 and 5500. i seem to find the biggest ones low though. i think my lowest is about 2700 and the highest is just under 8000. pretty broad range
I think it all depends on the winter as to where you find them. On a bad winter (heavy snow) I can guarantee I'll find sheds in a certain area. When the snow is thin in the late winter early spring, I never find any sheds in this particular area. I have never checked elevation though. 5-7,000 feet seems about right though.
How you been ungulate?? Haven't talked to you in a while? I'll send you a pm.
UNG,
Looks like my streak of finding 2-points continues... went out today and picked up 3 2-points in about an hour or so. We gotta go after the moose up there, that might be the ticket!
The snow line is the determining factor
I have found deer sheds at 10,000'(drought year) and at 4,000'(normal snow) within 2 miles of each other as the crow flies, just depends on the snow.
