Rotted on the inside. That's why you always check your saw chips when you're cutting. Look for rot. He acted like he didn't see that coming. The deformed trunk at ground level was his red flag too. Only luck saved him.

Sometimes they want them down also because if a fire goes through there those rotten trees act like Roman Candles spewing sparks for a long ways. A few "wildlife trees" is plenty.

He's probably pumping the throttle because he got into the habit of owning a Homelite. That's the only way to keep them running, if they start at all.

Dad bought one when we were kids. Heard and learned some of my first cuss words cause of that #$%$@! saw! It sits in my shed to remind me to never buy another one!
