Quake wakes up Ferndale

The U.S. Geological Survey reports a mid-size earthquake early this morning off the coast of Northern California.
The epicenter of the 3.1-magnitude quake was 24 miles southwest of Ferndale and 39 miles south-southwest of Eureka.
It was reported at 3:20 a.m., according to the USGS Berkeley Seismological Laboratory.
