Quake wakes up Ferndale

The U.S. Geological Survey reports a mid-size earthquake early this morning off the coast of Northern California.

The epicenter of the 3.1-magnitude quake was 24 miles southwest of Ferndale and 39 miles south-southwest of Eureka.

It was reported at 3:20 a.m., according to the USGS Berkeley Seismological Laboratory.

Unless Eel was sober at the time he wouldn't have felt a 3.1 quake.

I sleeped right through it also. They dont wake me much any more its realy got to be a big one say above a 5.1 or so for me to wake up.

It was reported at 3:20 a.m. I remember now!

I was in Ferndale when it hit. I was setting out Aleutian goose decoys about then, when a big mean Angus bull chased me to the fence. I felt the ground shake and thought I was doomed!

I meant to ask you if you grew up in Ferndale. My wifes family is from there.
