Ok my wife just got a great idea! Let's drive from Utah to Alaska for a camping and fishing trip and use our 5th wheel too save money on the trip! The problem I have is I don't have a passport! Do you really need one to drive through Canada?

Spit that out Son! That ain't no Almond Joy!!!!

Might as well get your passports in order!

Drive & Save Money pulling a Trailer?:D

You need 3 Months to do it right fishtofry!

One thing about it!

You won't be leaving your trailer up there forever,or maybe you will!:D

Long Haul!

Get yourself the biggest Diesel Tank that Cummins will Haul!:D

You'll need to Exchange some money!

Used to be a good deal, but since slicks buddy took office He's devalued Our money to where it ain't worth as much as the Canadian Cash now!

I'd take 3-4 Months on that Trip,No BS!

You won't be saving any money pulling a fifth wheel up there. The trip is fun to drive, but I think it's more fun and quicker to tent or motel it.

It's been a couple years since I've been up there but I do believe you now need a passport.

Tent it?

Nothin wrong with that but make sure & Take a 3-5-7!

Don't let the Border Boys see the Gun!

Hide it & Sneak it across!

Just a little Bear Protection, believe me,you'll need it!

You do. It's a relatively new law. However an option is instead of the 150.00 bucks for the passport, you can get a passport Card. Its around $70 including the photo at the post office. It will allow you to drive or cruise into Mexico or Canada. It will also let you cruise into Panama, the Caribean, as long as you leave from, and return to the US. It basically just wont let you fly anywhere. Good luck, it's really worth the trip. Only downside is it will cost you twice as much, because you will have to return.

Well it looks like will not going there until next year because my daughter starts school about Sept 1st! Bummer! I guess Montana and Wyoming and the great state of utard will have to do this year! Thanks guys! That was going to be one hell of a long drive!

FishFry....My wife and I drove to Alaska and back in 1984 with a new Diesel 3/4ton and we slept in the back most of the time except when we thought it was time to have a shower. Not sure what the exchange rate is now up in Canada, Yukon Territory but I found out back then that the best rate of exchange was at the local BANKS and not at Gas Stations, Restaurants etc.

We were gone a month and logged about 6,800 miles on the PU then. But it was worth all the time to do it and we still missed a lot of what to see. Spent a week in Valdez with a friend then and fished for Silvers all week long....best time I have ever had.

Went to the Kenai where my Mom & step dad were visiting his oldest son and Billy took his dad and me out on the Kenai to fish for REDS..........the river was full of them. Snag and release most of them.

And he is still driving on the same set of tires. True story. Overtones was there but he may not remember as they were experimenting with the latest bud Canada had to offer.

Do it! You can see plenty in a month. It will take 3-5 days to drive up - more if you spend much time in Canada.

It is a very cool drive, cool country, lots of critters, and some pretty good fishing along the way.

1911, LOL! on the same set of tires. The trip took so long because Kilo rotated them every 100 miles.:)

A guy I worked with retired a few years ago. He has a Honda 750 motorcycle. He and his wife road from Kali up to Homer, AK and back last summer. They pulled a small trailer with the bike and camped out the entire trip. He and his wife are probably 66 years old. Pretty impressive.

If you wait till Jan 2013, you will not be able to drive to Alaska.

You will however, be able to drive to New Zealand, after the polar balance shifts......according to the Mayans anyway.

Probably will still need a passport.

sh!t a better argument than that!"

Damn Nick I like that even better as I have always wanted to go to New Zealand to fish for those BIG German Brown Trout. Hey Eelgrass, you want to ride "shotgun" and I will drive??
