The areas i am going to start shed hunting are deep canyons. In canyons are most the sheds in the top bottom or middle on average? Thanks for any info Lex
Today, I found one on the top, two in the middle and one in the bottom. That probably doesn't help. However, in my limited experience I have found them all over. Sometimes in thick areas, and sometimes in open meadows. I am curious to know what others share.
Good luck and keep us posted!
I always like to walk right up the bottom and then check the middle and tops. A deer will feed in all areas of a canyon and you never know at what point he will drop his antler. Generally I will look a little harder on the South facing slopes because the snow will bare off sooner but nothing is written in stone. fatrooster.
Well i only found one shed and it was on the very top of the ridge.I think its off a old bull.It has huge mass and is a 8 point shed with a 22 inch g-1 the rest of the points are short and wide.
In NM, my experience is that I find them at all levels, but the general tendancies are more deer closer to the top of overall lower elevation canyons, and elk closer to the bottom of overall higher elevation canyons. Hope that makes sense.
