Looks like someone is getting ready to spring the next hunting trip on the wife!!! LOL...

Very good post.. I have to say that my wife has been great when it comes to my hunting and fishing. She can see how it has helped our kids find things that they enjoy that don't involve drinking, drugs, etc.
She has always supported me and never puts up a fuss when I tell her I am going. Of course, I took her out last year and helped her kill a lot bigger bull than I ever will!!!
I involve her in the hunting trip whenever possible as she enjoys and loves the mountains. It is her "paradise" to get away and relax and enjoy herself. She has me haul her, her wheelchair, and the trailer up to the mountains and drop her off for a week, and loves every minute of it. (Hmmmm?)
Anyway, you are right to say how nice it is to have a spouse that doesn't gripe or complain every time you want to get away yourself!

I have to agree with both of you. After times early in our marriage when my wife wasn't too thrilled about how long some of my trips would be, for years now she just asks how long I'll be gone and when I'll be back. She used to go with me on many trips till we had kids, then she stopped going. Now that they're both in college, I wonder if she'll want to start going again, which would be nice.

As long as she doesn't let me black lab die while I'm gone, I know I'm in good standing when I return home :)

Great post, I agree 100%. Thanks to my wife Miriam for attending to my beautiful two young daughters while I am away most every weekend helping berryblaster and the gang at Strawberry.

Most wives have heard the hunting stories so often that as my aunt said, "I can tell you where every rock, ridge, tree, and trail in the whole country is."

Woah wait i dont think help is the word there. Maybe emotional support?? that sounds better ;-)

NOT GOING TO TELL HER, ALL READY TOLD HER LEAVING FOR COLORADO SEPT 3RD. I DO FEEL BAD ABOUT LEAVING, MY WIFE IS PREGNENT WITH ARE 3RD CHILD.

LOL - Rick I was thinking the same thing.:D

I do agree, those spouses that support our outdoor addiction are special people. THe ones that get out there and do it right beside you are even more rare and special (like mine). It's nice to show some appreciation once in a while. Great post!

It's always an adventure!!!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-27-08 AT 08:56AM (MST)[p]The whole secret to having wives who are tolerant is similar to owning a new pair of shoes; you gotta break them in properly. ;-)

Just a little less than 47 years ago, my wife Ellen and I exchanged vows on a Sat. in front of the altar in Lodi, NJ. At the time, she was working as a recepionist in a beauty salon. Because she had already used up her vacation, she was able to get only one extra day off for our very short honeymoon at a nice resort in northern NJ. I, on the other hand, had no problem with getting a few days off whenever I wanted them.

Sooo...while she returned to work on Tues., I left with a friend for a 4-day deer hunt in NY's Adirondack Mts. That began my break-in period, which continued in earnest after we moved to AZ a few months later. Within two years, the "shoes" fit great.

Since then, I have missed anniversaries, birthdays and holidays on a regular basis without penalty. And that will continue this fall when my 45-yr. old son and I leave early Thanksgiving Day to pursue Coues deer in southern AZ. -TONY

Good post EXTREMEHUNTER, & very true.

I'll just explain to Jessica that I really really am going to need you to help pack my elk off the mountain, she will understand!

Just kidding, we'll keep you and Jessica in our prayers.
