LAST EDITED ON Apr-06-05 AT 09:31PM (MST)[p]Had a nice hike today with no sheds, but I did find this dead buck. I saw several shed bucks and lots of sign but no sheds. Just for fun, can you see my car? It's there.
This is a Utah buck. My car is the white speck near where the river meets the road, very good. Hey that's weird, now that I look the left rear tire is a little low...
I've already picked up all the sheds in that area. More than you could pack out in one trip. Nice area, nice skull !!! Watch out for the skull police they have been watching here in Northern UT.
If I found a nice buck like that I would tell the Skull Police to pound sand!
We've got the same problem in BC, if you find a winter kill Ram its a real bugger getting it home. The COs have to inspect it and then insert a metal plug in the horn for ID. That's if it's a small one. They like to keep the big ones for their game auctions.
Tell em' to pound sound and give the poachers a little more incentive......makes sense to me.
I hate to see a legitimately found skull rot just as much as the next guy, but I certainly understand the reasoning behind the law. Here in Utah, the law was passed because poachers kill the bucks on the winter range or even during the hunts and mark the position with a GPS and return for their bounty later, claiming it was winter killed.
If a guy wants to take his chances and pick em' up...go for it. I just know it's not worth it to me.
