LAST EDITED ON Apr-23-12 AT 05:59AM (MST)[p]I guess it was his shed before it was mine, but it still pisses me off. They can really do some damage! Saw 6 of them in one day in this spot. No wonder I don't find many sheds up there.

It's been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
But this is still the place
That we all call home

I think most of the time the dogs stick thier nose where they shouldn't. Killing a protected species is also considered poaching.

Yes, unfortunately.

It would be nice to thin a few out in this area. We see at least 5-10 everytime we are up there. I'm sure there are a ton of people that shoot them, but they just keep coming.

HJB, that wouldnt be in the same area we talked about last week is it? My r/h side looks like it could go to your left one ;-) One of those Damn pin cushions put a couple dozen quills in my dog while I was in that area last year!!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-24-12 AT 08:35AM (MST)[p]I really wish you had put an end to my misery HJB!! I went back up last Friday and put 16 miles on the boots for some old three point deer sheds and watched the horse posse's show up in full force that afternoon. I think this fat bastage is done looking up in there this year.

That place is pretty frustrating. EC isn't much better. There are hundreds of elk in there on the opener and the day after you won't see an elk on the whole unit. I hike the entire boundary and never saw a single big game animal until I got to the very back where a spotted a doe. It's way too hot this year. I'm actually surprized any elk were on the WMAs at all this year.

I've never heard of porcupines being protected. Not sure if they are where I live but I leave them alone either way. Years ago I was on a ranch and the owner said to kill every porcupine you see because his cattle had a habit of getting poked. I gunned one down at point blank range with my .45 as he was climbing a tree and the little bstard kept climbing after my clip was empty.

The little porkers are actually harmless if you don't mess with them. You can get like 5 feet from one and it will just sit there. The only time animals get poked, is when they decide to put their nose in a patch of spikes.

I was poking one with my trekking pole the other day and it just sat there looking at me. Not much a challenge to shoot, I'm not sure why people get a kick out of it.

That's a pretty good antler for EC. I know the area well. Found a small six point set up there two years ago and the one side had three of the six points chewed down to nothin'. I'd seen the bull still packin' just several days prior, so they couldn't have been on the ground more than a day or two. Little buggers are definitely all over up there.
