Hey all,
Most states now have cwd regulations about transporting meat and skulls. I went to extra time and effort to comply before traveling home across several states with mine a few weeks ago. Although antlers were readily visible in my truck bed and I was passed by multiple highway police, I was never checked and have never been checked before for cwd compliance.
It got me wondering how serious people are taking these regulations? How many hunters are getting checked on this?
What are you guys doing?

Doing Just What You're Doing!

Obeying The Laws!

But Truth Be Known How Many Are Getting Checked?

I Did See A Few Outa-Staters Headed West Through DRATville From Colorado Whole Bodies & Not Skinned & Head Still Attached!

Probably Headed For KALI & Gonna Bittch Claiming They Can't Eat The Meat!

I did the same thing prepping for my hunt. Based on the following language, I concluded the only way to be entirely legal was to have a Euro done in the state of harvest as far as the head. Meat is not much of an issue as most hunters nowadays are using the gutless method and not transporting the entire carcass:

  • "If you would like to make a European mount, keep in mind that without completing the full preparation it is inevitable that infectious material associated with residual brain matter and the lining of the skull will be returned to California with the skull. Simply boiling the skull or pressure washing the skull will not destroy the prion and will not remove all the tissue. To comply with CCR Title 14, Section 712 regulations(opens in new tab) no meat or tissue can remain on the skull."
With that said, I don't think there is much enforcement.
