Crimson Talon Broadheads

OK I just got told at a local sporting goods store that if I was to buy the Crimson Talon broadheads that I would have to shorten my vains on my arrows to allow for the broadhead to make the arrow spin. Is there any truth to this and has anybody shot these types of broadheads. I am considering these or the wac em's 85 grain broadheads.

Just go for the wac-ems ... they are a great broadhead and you dont need to to any adjusting....anyway mine shoot like my field tips

What? This makes no sense to me at all! Broadheads don't make your arrows spin hardly at all, the vanes do though. Try them, if you don't like them, switch to something else, but I wouldn't mess with what they are telling you!

Personally I wouldn't touch those things with a 10 foot pole...

Curved blades on broad heads seem like they would degrade penitration... They would translate to a larger frontal surface area of the blades and also would hinder the mechanical advantage of a straight "wedge" i.e. blade vs. the curved blades. This I'm sure would lead to blade failure and breakage as well, since the forces acting on the blade are translated into radial directions instead of in a planer direction as in with conventional blades...

I have a real hard time believing that an engineer even had a hand in the invention/production of the talons...

IMO if the broadhead is "stearing" the arrow you will have some serious problems...

The Crimson Talon Broadheads fall apart. The curved bladeS are like aluminum foil. Very thin. These blades were coming apart on targets when we tested them. Wac-ems are a much better broadhead. Better/tougher design and they fly great. I don't care for any broadhead that wants to take over the steering of the arrow. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!!

LAST EDITED ON May-22-05 AT 08:23AM (MST)[p]They group amazingly tight in my set up relative to other broadheads that group well too but not quite as good as the talons--I tried a one out that someone let me try out at the archery range. It was amazing.

I still don't know if I would use them in the field but quite a few folks who've shot blacktails in the Oakdale area like them since the shop there is big on them. I too would be concerned with the blades breaking etc.
