LAST EDITED ON Jan-05-07 AT 10:37AM (MST)[p]I had not thoght about it until today but the real losers of the shed season in Utah is going to be the neighboring states. I have never seen a population of people so hung up on shed hunting. Seriously, there are guys in Utah that would ride a skeleton horse through the gates of Hell to pick up a chalky bleached out forky shed! What is this going to do to Utahs neighbors?

Looks like Colorado area 10 and 21 is going to be hell if the Northeastern Region in Utah passes a shed season. LOL.

I have hunted sheds for many years, and rarely sell them. I never sell my "good ones". I wish the bottom would fall out of the antler market. That might weed a few people out.

Heck, try living here in Utah with all the crazyness. The price will never weed out the Utahns. They are too concerned with the "mine is bigger than yours" or "I found more than you did". 15 years ago we could go out and shed hunt in May after the deer were off the range. We left the pieces and chalk. Now you have to go mid-Feb sit there all day watching for a buck to shed, then race the competition up the hill while the buck lunges away with a bleeding head. Maybe you will have a few more chute planes in Colorado busting deer in search of bone.

I said it once and I'll say it again

Well I supose all you great utards will all be heading to Wyoming to do your shed hunting like there ain't enough utah tags at the porn shop and beer stores just stay on the main drag and you should be OK.
I guess Nevada need's a break from the saturday gamblers and running back across the flats befor sunday morning!!!!!!!

Drummond you dont have to worry about them getting over to the front range, I'm sure the west slope may see a 'few' more this year!
Got any places I can go in eastern AZ?

Your probably right Drum, Utah's neighbors will pay for Utah's shed season. Which I think is absolutly absurd. First of all I have been hunting sheds as long as anyone on this web site. I know this because NOBODY did this when I started doing it. Folks thought I was nuts dragging all that garbage home. It makes for a great famliy outing. And a great time of year to be out in the hills. There are two things that ruined it. People found out they were worth money and 4-wheelers. I guess you could throw ego into it also. All that needs to happen is restrict quads to designated roads on ALL fedral lands. In ALL states. A season is silly. Of course no one accused the DWR of making good decisions. Anyway, there would be no problems in any states if you didn't have quads off the roads chasing crap. If hiking on the winter range is unethical, than para-planes, guides with 30 people in camp looking for one guy a deer, paying a ridiculous amount of money to hunt a ranch, hunting elk in the rut, game cameras... is all definatly unethical. And just so you know I've seen guys in Arizona and Nevada that are just as bad or worse than Utah guys.

Are you serious Longun? Wow, you really are an old SOB! That means you started dragging sheds home about 4 years before my mom and dad even found out I was on the way...

No wonder you ride the horse around instead of hiking...

LMAO! You know I'm just jelous... :)

what really sucks is utah taking shed from people traveling through from another state,a good freind of mine hunted colorado this year ,they found ,while hunting ,a few nice peices of bone ,as well they had the horns from the deer they harvested, pulled over, tags were checked ,everything went o.k as far as the heads went but the sheds had to stay.My buddy was nearly arrested when he wanted to argue the fact that the sheds he had were from a differant state. He was asked to prove they are not from U FN tah,and if he could prove it he could come back and pick them up "again".Talk about BS,I really feel sorry for you guys from utah who love shed hunting as much as me .You find them and youre state agencies take them.Nevada is getting bad as well but most law enforcement agencies here give you a break ,if they mess with you at all.The next step for utah is to fine you a huge sum if you dont tell the sob where you actually found youre sheds .FOOD FOR THOUGHT.Happy hunting and as well HAPPY F N NEW YEAR

Yep Shawn,
I admit I'm a 50 yr old wuss. went out coyote hunting walked about 2 miles from the pickup no coyotes, no antlers, no arrowheads, no petrified wood. Got to the pickup and downed a 6 pack and half a bottle of advil and went to bed at 6:30 wondering why the hell I didn't take a horse!! Feel good today though!! HEHE

fldrw22, It is not illegal to possess sheds in Utah and it never has been. If your friend had shed antlers confiscated, it was probably a jackass officer that simply wanted them for himself. If your friend had known the law, he could have called B.S. I'm sure the officer wouldn't have actually arrested the man - at least not for possessing shed antlers. Our state agencies don't take away shed antlers. The are perfectly legal to pick up and possess. At least for now.

I appreciate youre comment ,and you are right ,if he may have known the law he may have had a chance .Either way ,it is a true story.
