The Sierra Club and the U. S. Forest Service were presenting an alternative to the Wyoming ranchers for controlling the coyote population.
It seems that after years of the ranchers using the tried and true method of shooting or trapping the predators, the Sierra Club had a "more humane" solution to this issue.
What they were proposing was for the animals to be captured alive. The males would then be castrated and let loose again. This was ACTUALLY proposed by the Sierra Club and by the U. S. Forest Service.
All of the ranchers thought about this amazing idea for a couple of minutes.
Finally an old fellow wearing a big cowboy hat in the back of the conference room stood up, tipped his hat back and said, "Son, I don't think you understand our problem here. These coyotes ain't screwin' our sheep; they're eatin' 'em!"
The meeting never really got back to order.

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

The truth is that isn't too far from an actual story. The real story involved Utah State University and Deseret Land & Livestock. The Ranch Manager for DL&L was attending an LDS meeting when one of the brethren asked the manager about the validity of Deseret looking into depredation rates on the ranch. USU was sterilizing coyotes or performing mock surgery on the control candidates. Coyotes were released and then sheep were trailed through the home ranges of these coyotes. As you would expect, coyotes without young of the year to feed did not bother sheep as there was sufficient resources available for the adults; however, were reproduction occurred coyotes would kill and eat the sheep as they passed through their home range.
From what was reported, the words are pretty close to what was said when the gentleman learned about this study. True story.
