Cougar Management Bill Advances to Oregon Senate

On April 20, House Bill 2337 passed in the state House by a 45 to 14 vote. HB 2337 is a cougar management bill ordered by the Speaker pursuant to House Rule 12.00A (5). Due to the fact that hunting cougars with dogs is considered a Measure 11 penalty, 40 votes were required to pass it. HB 2337 now moves to the state Senate where, if past experience is repeated, the legislation will face an uphill battle.

HB 2337 would allow for the creation of pilot programs in which permitted persons could hunt or pursue cougars using one or more dogs. The pilot programs would be launched in select areas with documented cougar threats to human, livestock, or pet safety.

Your NRA will continue to update you after HB 2337 has been assigned to a Senate Committee.
