I've done some dumpster diving in my day for bear bait. It is absolutely amazing what and how much gets thrown out.
Last year I got $600 worth of walnuts still in the boxes. Each package had a 1" cut from the bagging process. I'm sure they were perfectly fine but they were thrown out. The bears loved them.

So, this jerk goes dumpster diving for food and what he doesn't eat he gives to homeless shelters. What a guy. My hero.
