Conservationists file lawsuit against elk feeding in Wyoming

Looks like Chronic wasting disease is a concern if it reaches the feed grounds.

Douchebags. if those elk don't get fed there they'll end up at Jackson so what difference does it make. and it's hard to say if it's an elk feeding ground or a wolf feeding ground in the first place. wolves decimate the elk there.

Even if Alkali gets closed the Gros Ventre grounds and Fish Creek will still be there.


I feed elk there a few days every year and very few years could the elk survive without feed . so how is it better to have a few thousand more join the 7-9 thousand at Jackson if CWD is your concern?

Maybe the goal is to move the wolves to Jackson so the Subaru drivers can enjoy seeing the elk being eaten alive from the hiway. I can't see any other justification.

I agree. that was the whole intent of the wolf reintroduction. but shutting Alkali down changes nothing it just moves a few elk up or down the river.

I think the idea of closing the feed grounds is not well thought out buy these people.
If it were to be shut down, it would need to be weened off over several years or mass elk die off could occur. Many elk have come to depend on that winter feed when Pickens get slim.

I've always thought a better option would be to spread the feeding out over the entire Western region.
Helicopter drops come to mind.

Just my opinion, but this would lesson concentrated herds and the impact on migration.

In this case all 3 Gros Ventre feed grounds are only a few miles apart. the elk will go back and forth between the cabin and Fish creek grounds but most of the time once they work down to Alkali they fall on down to Jackson if they leave. so if you close Alkali they're gone.

Other than being stupid I really don't see what else this is about.

No way that would be financially feasible flying copters with the amount of feed it takes for that many animals.

A huge cost is certainly what it would be I'm certain. I imagine it's already pricey as it is.

With the cost of non-resident game tags, the money to use choppers would certainly come likely from a increase in the elk price.
Guess I already don't like what I'm paying now, but an extra $30.00 or so wouldn't brake the bank.

Especially if it would improve the elk hunting over a larger area.

...you miss the whole point millworks....the oponents care nothing of cwd ...or elk.

Just putting my opinion out on the feeding.
I'm all for a winter feed program.
You and Ab Lincoln can rest easy, I live in a CWD area that has regulated us hunters to death and killed deer by the thousands in the name of saving wildlife.

A slow elk will be wolf chit the first night in that country. I suppose if you want to say the wolves are good for something it might be preventing CWD from spreading on feed grounds. as much as it pains me to say it.

CWD is not an issue in this case.

I sure hope all the good people of Wyoming won't allow the CWD issue to be an excuse for killing off a population of game to supposedly prevent the spread of the disease.
That's been happening here in the Eastern panhandle of WV for a long time.

It hasn't stopped the spread of the disease, but it sure lowered the deer population to a third of what it was.
You guys in the West should realize just how good you got it.
We have to hunt two or three days on average just to see a buck now. The success rate on bucks here is less than 2%.
How's that for management.

We don't need that can opened. CWD hasn't been a big issue here so far.

"Conservation" groups. That moniker makes me laugh whenever I read it. Why don't they just call them what they are? Anti-hunting preservation groups.

These groups thrive on speculation.
