After a week in the Idaho deer hunt, I was holding out for something bigger and wanting to hunt public land, still waiting after a few good days of hiking and hunting. I was just checking out the farms herd of does, usually around 60 come down off the hill into the fields, maybe something big would show up, but not likely. I spotted a little buck way out there with a bum front leg. I figured he'd been shot and it was mangled, upon close inspection, this guy couldn't
put any weight on his front leg and it was just dangling. My daughter said it would be the right thing to do, compassion buck! Coyote food, winter kill. So I decided to shoot him. Tagged him. No fresh wounds, elbow didn't have any structure to it. Must have been hit by car when he was younger? Had been that way for awhile, was thin and smaller body. Anyway, he did have a neat little rack once we picked him up. Do you let wounded deer go or put em out of their misery?
