My work partner found a fresh moose shed over a month ago. Blood all over the snow and on the base. Seemed pretty early but there always are early droppers. Glassed up 6 different moose this weekend and none were carrying. Of course they were cows and calves. :) Hoping to find my first brown of the year soon. Most bulls around here drop between Dec 15-30. Very rarely do I see bull still carrying in Jan.

Yesterday my brother HaremMaster and I, matched up a big 352 set. The horns were in way good shape, and we found them 15 yards apart. Find any sheds in Northwest Wyoming in the middle of Decemeber is really good, finding a 352 set is unreal. I will post them shortly, along with the best of the 2004 horn hunting year.

Holy crap, that is the earliest I've ever heard of an elk shedding! That is awesome....PICS!

Well, I'll be bowhunting in a whitey, mulie, elky, moosie area tommorrow through Thursday, so maybe I'll find some early Christmas presents, and also nail one carrying!! Can always hope and dream, right.....

hey HS,

PM or email me about where you are hunting if you wouldn't mind. i think i know where you might be headed but just want to swap a little info with you.

they are moose, the first two were probably dropped 2 weeks ago, last year i found one set one dec. 2 and the biggest set i found on the 4th both were dropped end of nov. some time.

I found a brown whitetail antler on Dec, 20 of this year. It is the second earliest I have ever found an antler. It is a nice 66 inch five point.

Do you hunt a lot of whitetail sheds? I have went out and found a few, but still have not hit the jackpot. Do you have any advise on where and how to look. We typically look in pasture close to river bottoms?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-26-04 AT 08:15PM (MST)[p]I typicaly find 50 to 100 whitetail antlers a year. The best spots to look are close to hay stacks or silage pits. A few years ago I found a dozen antlers around a silage pit in about 30 minutes and this was after the landowner picked up the easy ones that were in the pit its self or on the road going in. The antler I found last week was by a hay stack. I don't go into the brush until Feb so that I don't spook the bucks. This time of year I like to get up on a high hill with the spotting scope and watch the bucks to get a good idea of were to look. In Feb. or as soon as the snow melts I will start to work the brush with a grid pattern. Try to Keep the spacing at about 15 to 20 feet. If I am still unable to locate the big antlers I am looking for I may work the brush with another pattern that runs 90 dagrees from the first.

Antlerradar,
Thanks for the info! We'll give it a try and see what we come up with.
