Colorado Unit 66 muzzleloader

So I have a tag in my pocket this year. I have hunted unit 55 2nd season 7 years ago and helped a friend in 67 on his 3rd season buck hunt 2 years ago and just love the Gunnison basin. I was wishing I had a muzzleloader tag when I had the 55 tag based on the bucks I saw scouting. But because of point creep I decided to go to 66 with. I am unfamiliar with the unit but plan on a scouting trip or two late July and August. Any general direction would be appreciated so I can make the most of my scouting time. I'm happy to help with what I know and saw on 55 and 67 in a PM. Thanks.

I don't know it well but I will be scouting down there this weekend and then hunting Mid September. When does the first season elk tag open?

I wanted to give an update and thanks to some of the awesome members on this site that gave me some direction on this hunt. It helped a ton and I hope to help others in the same way. I think that is what this site is all about. There really are some good dudes out there. You know who you are.

I dropped him off at the butcher yesterday morning. Head removed, legs cut off at the hocks and of course no guts and he tipped the scale at 206. What a fat hog. Those Colorado bucks have pretty big bodies. I don't know how much he would have been on the hoof but I would guess add another 60 pounds. I shot one in Wyoming that was about another 25% bigger but he was like a spike elk.
