To ease the pain of those of us who recieved the dreaded UNSUCCESSFUL, and to pump up those who recieved the Holy SUCCESSFUL. Here is a picture of my brothers 2003 ram.

the story behind this ram is that my younger brother lucked out and drew a tag last year. he scouted his area hard all summer and then killed this toad on the second day of the hunt. when he had the head plugged the Division of Wildlife guys aged the ram at 10+ years.

That ram is a beaut. Thats not a story. Thats background info.
Spend a few minutes and give a few details if you would. #'s of rams seen and or passed. Scouting? When and where? Sheep aren't like mule deer "honey holes". Sheep hunters share!

I just wanted an excuse to use the phrase "honey hole".

sorry about the short story, here are the details. summer scouting showed us the general area the sheep were using. we saw some nice rams while scouting but were hard pressed to consistantly find the big boys. we would hear stories from friends and people around town of where they had seen big rams all of which pointed to the south end of the unit. once bow season began in august the sheep became a lot harder to find, and we kept our distance as to not get in the way of those with the bow tags. the bow hunters were very reluctant to share any info with us on what or where they were seeing the sheep. this bothered us but did not break our hearts, as we had a pretty good feel for what to expect. my dad had drawn a tag in this unit a few years back and we had helped several friends with their hunts in this same unit. the bow season ended without any of the bow hunters tagging out. i had to get back to school (out of state) so i was not going to be able to get back until the second week of the hunt. so my dad and brother would be by themselves until i could get back to help them. i told them not to kill the first ram they saw and to not get to serious until i got back. so the first day of the season they headed to the north end of the unit. my dad wanted to show my brother where he had killed his ram. while over there they spotted three rams, one of which was worth the hike to the far end of the unit. unable to get in position before dark they headed back first thing the next morning. while watching some avalanche chutes at first light they spotted some big bucks browsing below them. they moved a little closer to take a better look at the bucks leaving their packs and spotting scopes back up the hill. my brother was still watching the deer and my dad moved back up the hill to get his camera. while moving back up to the packs my dad spotted the rams just over the lip of the hill out of view from where they were sitting watching the bucks. unbelievably the rams were less than fifty yards from their packs and spotting scopes. my dad hissed to my brother to get up there and he could not belive his eyes when the big ram lifted his head and showed his massive headgear. so the hunt ended the second day on the opposite end of the unit all signs had pointed to. but i believe this ram was worth taking even before i could get back from college to help them with. the ram was not incredibly long only heavily broomed 31" and change by 31" but it seems he more than made up for it with how he carried his mass. so that is it. sorry so long, hope you enjoy.
