Well my hunts have slowed down a little so I thought I would post a quick story. I posted pictures in another post but I didn't have time to write much. The hunt in Colorado was awesome. I have never seen so many bucks on public land. I hunted for 3 days before shooting this buck. He is not the biggest buck I saw by any means but he's not bad for a bow. He scores just under 150" with great front forks and decent mass (5" bases) I got a shot through the trees at a buck that I think would go 185-195 typical. It was 50 yards and a tough shot through the pines, but I had to take it. I found my arrow and it was a clean miss. The buck I killed was uphill at 77 yards in the wide open and I hit him perfectly behind the front shoulder. (I am not promoting long shots unless you practice. I have an 80 yard pin and I am pretty confident with it.) I passed on several decent bucks and missed couple before taking this one. I had about a 24" buck duck my string on video. At 39 yards I couldn't believe that I shot over his back until I watched my video in slow motion and watched the buck duck at least 10-12" at the sound of the string and my arrow missed the top of his back by less than an inch. I guess it was his lucky day and I got a sweet video out of the deal. Anyway I had a great time and I look forward to trying for another one here on Utah's extended. With one in the bag it will be alot easier to hold out for a really nice buck in Utah. This hunt definetly reminded me why I LOVE BOW HUNTING.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-19-06 AT 08:48PM (MST)[p]Thanks everyone. I was a little disappointed (at first) that I didn't hold out for a little longer, but for public land do-it-yourself he isn't bad and I guess I can't complain. Theres always next year for a bigger buck in Colorado.

Man I can't believe I missed this post. Congrats on a beautiful buck . I love muleys in velvet , you did just right, heck I don't believe I would have passed him either. Again congrats on a great archery muley....

yep I did'nt see this post until today either. what a great deer, buddy it would have been nicer to get the big one right ? bullcrap- he'll be there next year even bigger !!!!! ANY MULE DEER BUCK TAKEN WITH A BOW IS A GREAT DEER !!!!! good job and it sounds like a great shot too. I know what you mean about having the pins and being confident in them, if you have them set, and you practice- you know where you'll hit when you shoot every time. I just put a new sight on both mine and my sons bows, mine has up to 110, and his will go to 80. he can't shoot past 50 now because of the poundage he can pull and shoot normally right now, but as he grows and gets stronger the pins are there when we need them. good job again, very nice MULE DEER buck. where in colorado were you hunting ?? I had a unit 75 hunt in october.
