LAST EDITED ON Aug-02-04 AT 02:34PM (MST)[p]Am thinking ahead for next years draw. We,(my buddy and I) have 8 pref. points, are non-residents and want to burn our points. We had been waiting to draw a tag in unit 2 but I think we don't want to wait that long. Are there other units with public land that would be good for speed goats? Was wondering about units 135, 143, 144 is there enough continuous National Grassland in those units to hunt without crossing over someones private property? Open to suggestions. Thanks.

Colo is not known for monster antelope. If you look at the B&C listings you will find only a handful of bucks that have ever made it. I wouldn't waste another year of waiting....get a tag and have a great time!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-02-04 AT 07:02PM (MST)[p]That would be a waste of those 8 points. That area is broken between deeded property and grasslands (looks different than how most driving atlas' show it) and the landowners are aware of the value of their hunting. The bucks in those areas are not very large(13 to 13 1/2). You can find a better area with better access and better bucks. You would be better off to keeping trying for area 2 and apply for WY if you just want to go hunt pronghorns.

Some of the best antelope in Colorado are coming out of unit 301. The area is intermixed with public/private with the best bucks on private land. Unit 3 just to the north (same tag) has a lot more public land and quite a few good herds. You wouldn't do wrong any where in that area and I belive you can draw with 8 or 9 points. I have several ranches in those units leased to a outfitter, but with some work you can do fine on your own. If your looking for a bigun and don't have a lot of time look at a semi guided or a trespass fee hunt on private land. I hope this helps.

RE: Colorado Antelope Question

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of units 3 and 301, I guess I didn't realize there was much public land. I will look into the public land aspect of units 3 and 301. We should be able to draw in 3 and 301 next year or the year after. I think we may can draw unit 61 for mule deer next year so may have to wait one more to try for antelope. Only get so much time away from home in the fall. Thanks again.
