CO archery deer question

I have points in CO that I want to save and continue to build on. i do not want to spend them yet. But there is also a unit I am somewhat interested in that is about a 90% draw with 0 points and 100% with 1 point. Is there any way I can still apply for this unit, without using my points? Or worst case, can I draw with only one point and get to save the rest?

I think the answer is no and with the point banking year behind us, I think I am S.O.L. Right? Just wanted to make sure.

I don't know what unit your interested in
but you might consider purchasing a landowner
tag. Some of the archery ones are very reasonable.
I'm in the same boat, and am going to try to get
a muzz l.o. tag this year so I can go with a freind
who will probably draw. Something to think about.

What if I just put the preference point code as my first choice and put the other unit as my second choice? Will I still get to keep my current points since I do not have a first choice hunt?

Might I still be able to draw the other hunt as a second choice?

If you put in for a PP on your first choice and DRAW your second choice you will still earn a point AND get a tag. That's what I have been doing the last few seasons on archery tags that generally do not sell-out to first round applicants.

Thanks Roy, that is what I thought, but what if your second choice might require one point?

Your points are only applied for your first choice. So if you put in for a unit that "requires" (1) PP, you will not draw with your second choice if you put in for a PP only on your first choice.

However, SOME units show one PP required, but upon further examination, a few hunters were drawn without any points, as the (1) point applicants were given tags first and the remaining tags available went to those who had no points.

Everything I have seen will list the least amount of points it took to draw, so if someone drew the tag with 0 points it will show 0 points for pref. points needed even if it is only a 5% chance of drawing with 0 PP. The unit I usually apply for lists 0 PP needed but I only get drawn 40% of the time without PP. In your situationg just make sure it isn't your first choice. You can check the draw summary to see if anyone drew that tag as a second choice, if it is a 90% draw unit then that would usually mean only for those people that put it as first choice, meaning the other 10% that had it as first choice didn't get the tag. I believe for Colorado they don't count second choice in the percentages for drawing the tag, it seems I read that somewhere. Good luck.
