Idaho's chukar and gray partridge hunting seasons will close three weeks early because of bad weather and poor bird numbers.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game said Monday the seasons will be closed statewide effective Jan. 10. The last day of hunting will be Jan. 9.
Heavy snows and frigid temperatures have hit most of the game birds' habitat this winter.
The seasons are being closed because as partridge try to escape snow cover, the birds move to lower elevations and along the Snake River where they concentrate and become more vulnerable and easier for hunters to get.
Another complication is that chukar numbers have been at record lows because of tough winters and also because cool, wet springs have affected nesting and the survival of young chicks.
The emergency closure was determined by the Fish and Game director.
i don't see anything on F&G web site,, this came out of the statesman..
it's about time F&G pulled their head out of there ass..
