LAST EDITED ON Mar-01-07 AT 11:01AM (MST)[p]I'm thinking about buying a new bow and I decided I would check my ego at the door. I've always been a Matthews shooter starting with the MQ1 and switchd to an Outback three years ago.
All of the bows I tried were set at 70 # draw, 29 " draw.
I was pretty excited about the Drenalin and here are my thoughts. Nice shooting bow, a little bit of hand shock, very quiet, extremely lightweight. My concern, and this is a personal concern that will vary from person to person, is that it didn't have the typical Matthews draw. It seemed a little harder to pull than it should have.
I shot the Guardian and it is as advertised. Very quiet and the least amount of handshock of all the bows I tested. My concern was the short valley. It seemed it wanted to jump out of my hands. I shot it over thirty times because I lovd the lack of handshock, but I couldn't get comfortable with the short valley.
I then shot the Vectrix and Vectrix XL. In short they both shot the same except I liked the stability of the XL. Minimal handshock, slightly less than the Matthews, a little noiser than the rest of the bows. I loved the draw cycle and the valley was oh so sweet.
At this time I was favoring the Hoyt -- no small wonder for a Matthews shooter. All the ridicule I've received from Hoyt friends over the years resonated in my ears. So I decided to try the Switchback XT.
The Swithback XT had the sweet Matthews draw I've come to love. The valley was a little shallow but not as bad as the Guardian. I would have bought the Switchback XT but it simply did not have the speed the other bows had.... and try as I might I can't get the speed obsession out of my mind.
So, if I had to buy a new bow today it would be the Hoyt -- man, it's tough to type those words! I might just stay with my Outback -- hard to tell! It's like comparing Chevy, Ford and Dodge -- check your ego at the door and see what's best for you!
