My little boy is REALLY interested in archery . I'm a gun hunter so it's all pretty new to me . Does anyone know of a set up for a 4 year old . Something plastic / nerf whatever is fine .

Thanks

Sheepshooter, look into the Genesis bow. I recently discovered this bow for kids. It is really neat. I think Mathews makes it. it is just under 200 bucks but it has a steady pull and they can grow into it for quite some time. They also make a left hand model if that applies. Also, might want to look into a jr olympic archery program...That is how my parents got me and my sister started and they knew nothing about archery.....The teachers were great.

My 13 year old shot the Browning Micro Midas last year and had some great adventures with it.
I just bought him a 50lb Bowtech Allegiance with a 25" draw.
We sighted it in yesterday and we have two blacktail bucks spotted and patterned.
He is eagerly awaiting the July 8th opener.
We'll keep you posted!

Thanks for the replies . My Son is left handed so I'll look into that bow .

Good luck Harry . I've seen some monsterous blacktails around here the past couple of weeks .

Hey there Sheepshooter, I have 3 daughters that have been shooting that Genesis bow since they were each 5 years old. I really like it. My youngest shooter is 6 and my oldest is 14. They shoot a release and sites with each of their bows. The micro midas is a great bow too but it is for the more advanced youth shooter to graduate to. It has a let-off where the Genesis does not. I think it also goes up to 50# too. Maybe you should get rid of the gun and pick a bow too. I love shooting with my girls.

awholelottbull - I've really been thinking about doing just that . The areas I like to hunt are taking more and more points to draw every year . I could be archery hunting the same units almost every year . I've got a lot to learn about archery . Should be fun along with my kids .

for a 4 year old just go down the Sportsmans or Cabelas and buy a kid bow for about 50 bucks. No need to spend hundreds on a 4 year old. My boy shot one for a couple of years. Last year for his 7th birthday I got him th Micro Midas wich is a good bow and it has a lot of room for him to grow but it was also about $200.00

Black timber said it, Get a inexpensive setup to begin with and guage interest. I bought my oldest boy now 7 a Genisis bow last year. He absolutely loves it and goes to the bow range with me as well as 3D shoots on some weekends. Good luck. Family is where its at!

I have something better in the same price range. Go to Kustom King Arrows website and check out their youth bows. I started my son at about the same age (3-5) and ordered him a custom longbow for less than $35.00. An AWESOME kid bow that isn't confusing to them (compound, etc.). I prefer the self bows, longbows, recurves for kids at that age, as they are simple and easy to "operate". Here's the direct link for shopping. When he out-grows it and wants a compound, you don't have a lot of money invested. Good luck and have fun.

Do it! I have archery hunted for 20 years now and love it. I have been putting in for limited entry elk in Utah for the past 13 years. I switched over to archery this year and drew my tag. Yes, it is definately a lot more challenging with a bow but in my opinion it is a lot more rewarding. Anybody can shoot an elk with a bow. It's not that hard. Good luck and let us know what you decide. When you are ready to buy your own bow let me know. I am field testing a bow for Alpine Archery this year that is going to shock the big boys world for about $200 less that anything else even comparable out there.

AMEN! Ive been shooting archery for 4 years now and have shot one buck with my bow in in those years. Went out to my father in laws place cuz I was board to see if I could take out some ground squirrels. To my surprise I could....at 30 yards! That was almost as much fun as shooting my first bow buck. ...well, not really...but it was a blast!! Start shooting a bow and you'll never stop!
