well, the father should have kept his calm and notified the police. The police should have come with a swat team a surrounded the house. Then the police should have arrested the kidnapper and taken the children to the hospital for an evaluation. No fists would have been thrown and the roommate would not have been injured. The problem is that once you are in a fight, the police don't really care who started it. They just want to charge both parties.?

I agree with Happy Dave, the father and mother should have sat by while the police had time to respond and assess the situation. The roommate should not have have been injured, rather he would have been helpful in the negotiations if a standoff had ensued. We simply cannot accept people taking the law into their own hands in our society. This poor fellow looks like he needs a helping hand, not a beating. Perhaps he was just sleep walking or in need of some medication and was confused. Or even worse, perhaps he had a terrible childhood himself! It is better for calm attorneys, judges, and juries to determine the facts in such situations.
