Did anyone see the program this am on Outdoors with Dave Watson and him hunting in Africa for Cape Buffalo with his bow?
They were hiding in tall grass and trying to get a shot on a Cape, when one got too close he took the show and was suppose to aim below the nose to nit it in the front of the neck. Well the arrow went right up through the right nostrel and the Buff took off. When they went to get the Argo to stand up higher, the buffalo came towards them I think, missed a second or two there and the Buff reared up and toppled over dead. The way that Cape stood up was a sight, then fell over backwards and died.
Bet Dave is still changing his shorts. LOL

He took a frontal shot on a Cape Buff with a Bow!!! I don't think I would do it with a 460 Magnum!!! Good Luck

Oh I would of liked to see that. His show is alright, but I think he is kind of a doof. Ida loved to see him shart his pants over that one! Hopefully theyll replay it and I'll catch it then.

That wasn't Dave Watson that was that guy on Scent lokers just hunt with the beard that always wears the cowboy hat. It was one of those scentloks bucks bulls and bears commercial things.

YEP...definitely phil phillips. one lucky dude.
he took 2 frontal shots on that buff...the second one killed him and what a gusher that was...pumping blood, but a couple horrible shot choices.

I watched it this weekend and I still can't believe the Guide did't shoot it after Phil shot it with a bow in the nostril!!!What was the Guide thinkin? It was in VERY tall muddy grass?

What channel was it on ? I want to see it and most channels usually replay shows...

Your right it was Phil Phillips, got mixed up with the two of them. It was on The Outdoor Channel since I do not get the Mens Channel.

shoot and make it hurt the buffalo or shet your pants and maybe get ran over I think I would of shoot too. Sure not the best situation but not every one is. He got a buffalo that he really didnt even want to kill, that bull was charging and he had to take the shot.

I didn't see it, but can't believe that ANYONE would be dumb enough to shoot a cape buffalo with a frontal shot with a bow. If it really was charging, his PH would have shot it with a rifle.

I have shot a cape buffalo with a frontal shot, but it was with a .416 hoffman and a 400 grain trophy bonded sledgehammer solid and the shot was about 25-30 yards. I missed squaring it up on his nose, the bullet entered under the right eye, but it sure knocked him flatter than a pancake. I was actually trying to shoot him squarely between the eyes, but offhand it was just off by a little more than an inch.

I've taken six cape buffalo over the years. Exactly one was killed with a single shot. That one was with a .458 shooting a 500 grain hornady soft point at 13 yards, broadside. Four of the others took from 2 to 4 shots and the final one took approximately 15-20 shots before it died. That buffalo was a cow that charged us. The first bullets hit her at, literally, about 3 feet from the end of the muzzles, and she ran off. We chased her around for more than 30 minutes, putting bullets into any black patch of hair we could see. I was shooting a .470 nitro express and my Ph was shooting a .460 weatherby. There were a total of 27 holes in her, but quite a few of those were exit holes since we were shooting quite a few solids at her. It was scary as hell, and exciting beyond description! All that for a lion bait.....
