Okay experts! What's this bull score??

That's a good bull-trail cam pictures usually make them look smaller than they actually are. I am going with 360"+ on this one
The third picture is what made me go a little higher than I originally wanted to. I'd love to know what the actual score is on it. I bet the G4s are 20"+

Nice swords, good mains. Aide from one freak brow, his bottoms are pretty short. Those 12” second and thirds will keep him from breaking 330.

I’m may as well as spit into the wind but as a proven non expert…….. my wild guess would be 335……… he could be 315 or 350 and I wouldn’t be offended or embarrassed in the least. I’m firmly entrenched in the “Oh Well” Department of the Boone and Crockett Society.

Pretty bull elk regardless.

Pictures are allways hard to tell. I have 2 bulls that score rite at 330. Thats what I base stuff off of. Could be 310 to 315 Depends on Width and Mass!

Hard pressed to put him over 340 imho. 340 is a Big Bull, when bulls get 350+ they look awkwardly out of portortion. This bull doesn't do that for me .

Here's my thoughts from my own experience. Most camera angles that are pointing up usually make the subject look bigger than what they really are. The first picture looks like a 300-310 bull. The other two look like a 330-340 bull to me. So I may have under estimated on my first guess. I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the 325-335 range. My impression is the bull is closer to 320" than 360".

OK you called on us, do you know what he scored or was this just to get an idea of what he was?
I have no idea what he scored. I had an antelope tag last year and he started coming in to this cistern. He was always alone, even though these pics were taken in September and the other mature bulls all had cows. He was the biggest bull (IMO). I guessed him in the 340's. That's based on my 5 6x6 bulls I have at the house between 300-365. I'm no expert.

Thanks for playing! I basically just wanted to see what you guys all thought

Never hurts to exercise our guesser, good practice, in case we ever need to use it for real.

I see nice tine length, and decent mass but not terribly wide. I'd guess 320 or so based off a bull I know the score on.
I am terrible at judging by pics also though.

I keep coming back to this. Doubling down, I’d bet my mortgage that bull is north of 350, probably considerably so.

Couple of observations, the short side g-1 isn’t short, it angles away from camera giving it that appearance. Would guess both g-1’s to be 18+. The short G-5 isn’t short, again, in pic 3 it’s pretty obvious it’s on an angle away from cam. Would guess both G-5’s to be 14+. The sway in the beams after the sword adds length, guessing both beams to be 52ish maybe a bit more. Pic 2 shows solid mass carried well up the beam, along with a body that’s indicative of an older age class bull. In proportion to a big body the antlers are uh, sizeable.

The ‘short’ 3’s are still in that 13-14” range, doesn’t help that the contrast to those are 20”+ swords, put it all together and this is where I land.

G-1 20 18
G-2 15 16
G-3 14 14
G-4 20 20
G-5 14 15
Total: 167
MB 52 53
Mass 58
SC 38
Total: 201

That’s 368. Feels a bit much, my guts says high 50’s low 60’s

I'm 100% with you on this one - I have him right at 360". He is definitely bigger than many on this thread have given him credit for. Guess we will never know.

Reminds me of this thread: https://www.monstermuleys.info/xf/threads/what-do-you-think-of-this-bull.183657/#post-1908626

In this case, I ended up finding out the final score of the bull because I killed him :ROFLMAO: He was much bigger than many guessed him at. Always hard to judge from pictures though, for sure!

I'm right there with you. Those beams are long. You just don't end up under 345-350" with +52" main beams and 4ths and 5ths like that. And that front end would surprise folks, especially the guys guessing 12-13" on the brows.

All of that length is going to make decent mass look spindly. That bull is north of 350" but south of 370" I think.

A mature bull will measure right close to 16” from pedicle to tip of nose. Aside from that one odd ball brow, none of his bottom 3 on either side will break 13”. I’ll raise my bid to mid 330’s.

I've seen (and held the antlers) of 400" bulls taken on the San Juan unit in UT that were brought in for taxidermy work. I've also seen (and held) the 350" bulls that people have taken and brought in as well.

You know it when you see a bull that goes 350+. There is no wondering on whether or not if it does. The pics of this bull for this thread do not suggest a 350" score.

The best way to field judge any animal is to use the relationship of the ear dimensions of the animal to the horn or antler as those are a known and consistent number...

Funny story. I posted several live pictures of a bull a couple of years ago. Guesses ranged from low 300-400. Bull officially scored north of 400. Either pictures are misleading or a lot of folks don’t have a clue. I would say it’s both,
Just sayin…

The 400's I've seen are freakishly huge compared to a 320 or 330. There's no mistake.

Thanks for doing this nontypical. Like you, I have bulls that I use as comparators. I have a 342 bull and I'd say this one is a hair better. Made differently, but will gross more. As has been said, some of those tines are angled making them appear shorter in the pics than they actually are.

I think he is maybe closer to 350 than 340.

Wish you would have drawn that license this year so we could have field checked him.

A friend of mine drew this tag this year. I showed him this bull and another that I had gotten on cam last year. I'm definitely no expert on field judging elk, but I think I would have tried to kill this bull if I had a tag for the unit. Hopefully the bull is still around. I have a feeling he is. I'm no expert, but he's definitely bigger than 320...

Interestingly, these pics were taken during the rut. This bull was always alone. Here's a few more pics.

That 3rd tine doesn't do him many favors...

The low trail cam angle still didn’t help make his brows grow but sure make his swords look incredible

Not a dang thing wrong with that bull……… if you want a bigger one, leave him for you’ve neighbor. I’ve lived among the best there is and never killed one any bigger this one, nontropical. Hope ya’ll find a home for him this fall.
