Went out last Friday and this Monday, overall I found 15 sheds but only three were brown, at least I know that they are finally starting to fall.

First find Monday morning, this would be the best and only brown.

very nice! nice country too in mariposa. i was up on my ranch near fresno in the 2nd week of february and the bucks were still packin. i guess now they are, time to head back up.

Thanks huntsalot. I am still not sure if they are dropping really good yet, because based on the amount of deer sign I saw on monday (I could have started a fertilizer business)I would have thought that I would find more than one brown. But if I found a few then I guess they should really start dropping in the next week. I was just a little to early, the bad thing is that my spot is so steep and it takes such a long time to get to the top where the sheds are that the thought of going back is a little daunting. Oh well, I will just have to wait for my legs to recover and get back up there. Good luck on your ranch.

the problem is now the grass is a good 6 inches which will hide the all the sheds except ones attached to the skull. I remember in '03 or '04 they all dropped in the last week in january and the sheds stuck out like a sore thumb in the 1/4 inch grass. but not this year or last year. is it average for the california deer to drop in the end of march?

last year was my first year shed hunting, I just figured they dropped in March/April in this area. It sure would be cool if they dropped earlier when the grass wasnt so tall.
