The Ca. auction hunter killed a 173-3/8 desert bighorn in the Clipper Mtn's yesterday 11-29-03. If I can get a picture I'll get it posted.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-03 AT 04:16PM (MST)[p]JB,

Which Hunt zone is the Clipper Mtn's in here? I thought the season didn't start till Dec. 6th.

Brian

P.S. Never mind Jef, I found the info on which zone these Clipper's are in from Jesse's Hunting page. The reg's say the hunt starts Dec. 6th though. Does this auction tag holder have preference over all the other hunters to start first?

The auction tag hunter gets from the first sat in november also. The clippers didn't used to be part of the marbles but they added it a few years ago. It used to be real possible to hunt the marbles hard enough to push most of the sheep to the clippers, it was really hard on the draw hunters because the auction hunters would spend all of november running around in the marbles and often times there just weren't many good rams left in the marbles. It was a good move by the F&G.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-03 AT 07:19PM (MST)[p]I just received four pictures of the ram taken by the auction tag holder. I have asked the Grand Slam Club / Ovis webmaster to post them on the forum at http://wildsheep.org/6/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=4806054194 (look under "Desert Bighorn Sheep"). He will get them up in the next day or two I'm sure. The base measurements are 15 2/8 & 15 3/8. The last quarter measurements were 10+" so he carried the mass all the way out. The ram was 11 going on 12 years old.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-01-03 AT 01:49PM (MST)[p]Thanks, Brian. I was able to figure it out and, with Zack's help, got two of the photos posted on the Grand Slam Club / Ovis Community. It's up now so you can check it out. It's under Desert Bighorn Sheep and the topic is "California Auction Tag Success". The link in my first posting on this topic will get you to the Community page.

All The Best,
Brenton

Very impressive, especially considering that the hunter had very limited hunting time available this year.

Guys, I have pics of the ram/guys if you want to see them. If someone will give me an e-mail address to forward them to I'd send them to you to post. I don't have a scanner, or know how to post pics. Let me know. Paul

My uncle viedeo'd the entire thing for Tim and Stan and I saw it all. I can say it was pretty neat to watch them top out and have the ram a few hundred yards away from them. It is a very nice ram and alot of scouting went into Mr. Atwoods success.

Bullwidgeon, you were there? The pic I have has Mr. Atwood, Tim, Cliff, and a guy in camo on the left. Are you the guy in the camo?? PC

Nope,

My uncle was their. He guides for Tim. As I understand it Cliff, Tim, Stan, The guy who films it(I can not remember his name) Grover and my uncle Ben were all there on the hunt. I know Tim and Stan and Ben were there because I saw the video my uncle shot of the kill and a little of the stalk.

Paul,

I just checked your e-mail address next to your profile here and you NEED to send Brian(Founder) an e-mail to correct your address. It is [email protected] on profile so it needs to be changed and only Brian can do it.

Brian

The gentleman doing the filming was John Lewton from Montana. He's the same guy that did Bighorn I, II & III plus Double Slam, etc. He's an excellent guide in his own right. The outfitting / guiding team working for Stan Atwood were absolutely top notch.

Hmmm. I just looked at my profile which had my hotmail address. Maybe Brian needs to look at it, though. I'm not good at computer stuff. Check my profile again, OK? Pc

Here are the pictures of the Nelson Desert Sheep taken by Mr. Atwood, the Auction buyer/hunter. He was guided by Dry Creek Outfitters. The Ram was taken in the Marble/Clipper Mtns. here in CA.

The guy with the beard on the left is my uncle Ben. I thought he video'd the video he showed me but he didn't, I guess someone else did, anyways, nice job by Dry Creek and awesome ram for Mr. Atwood.
