Calif Bear

After filling his deer tag, my brother turned to Black Bears. After scouting for 20 days, he finally took a 240 pounder. Not the big one he had been stocking but we were glad it wasn't when we starting cleaning it.
He spotted it 500 yards away coming at him so he got in the prone position with his 270 WSM resting on his pack and settled in for the short time it took the bear to close withing 200 yards. One shot through the heart was all she wrote for this fine male Bear.

Wahoo gota luv spot and stalk bears

I agree with the spot and stalk. Much harder than using dogs or the bait thing. There were about 6 or 7 bears using this area. Three have now been taken from 240 - 450 pounds. The big guy is still roaming and will probably go around 600 pounds. He has about 12 inches between the ears but he is pretty nocturnal.
