Bush's Error !! Read it Dude!!

President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on terrorism. But the mistake was not his decision to go to war in Iraq . Bush's mistake came in his belief that this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII. It is not. Back then, they had just come out of a vicious depression. The country was steeled by the hardship of that depression. But they still believed fervently in this country. They knew that the people had elected their leaders, so it was the people's duty to back those leaders. Therefore, when the war broke out the people came together, rallied behind, and stuck with their leaders, whether they had voted for them or not or whether the war was going badly or not. And war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as great then as it is today.

Often there were more casualties in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire Iraq war. But that did not matter. The people stuck with the President because it was their patriotic duty. Americans put aside their differences in WWII and worked together to win that war. Everyone from every strata of society, from young to old pitched in. Small children pulled little wagons around to gather scrap metal for the war effort. Grade school students saved their pennies to buy stamps for war bonds to help the effort.

Men who were too old or medically 4F lied about their age or condition trying their best to join the military. Women doubled their work to keep things going at home. Harsh rationing of everything from gasoline to soap, to butter was imposed, yet there was very little complaining.

You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling the President. Interestingly enough in those days there were no fat cat actors and entertainers who ran off to visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and complain to them about our President. Instead, they made upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the troops' morale. And a bunch even enlisted. And imagine this: Teachers in schools actually started the day off with a pledge of allegiance, and with prayers for our country and our troops!

Back then, no newspaper would have dared point out certain weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared complain about what we were doing to catch spies. A newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it had complained that German or Japanese soldiers were being "tortured" by being forced to wear women's underwear, or subjected to interrogation by a woman, or being scared by a dog or did not have air conditioning.

There were a lot of things different back then. We were not subjected to a constant bombardment of pornography, perversion and promiscuity in movies or on radio. We did not have legions of crack heads, dope pushers, and armed gangs roaming our streets.

No, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we still had the courage and fortitude of our fathers. He believed that this was still the country that our fathers fought so dearly to preserve. It is not the same country. It is now a cross between Sodom and Gomorra and the land of Oz. We even have the wicked witch of the west as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives.

We did unite for a short while after 911, but our attitude changed when we found out that defending our country would require some sacrifices.

He made the number one mistake that ONLY a fool would make when it comes to war - it takes a nation to win a war, Bush sent the army, and an ill prepared one at that. . .

Bush also told the nation that there would be NO need to change a things, he also told us to go on living out lives just as we had before 9/11, in fact, he told us to keep driving and keep buying and presented the nation with the tax cut for the ultra wealthy. So, now you can see why people dont trust Bush. . . He's a joke. . .

I think Regan was president of the screen actors guild and Thompson is a member - or do I have my facts mixed up?

We will have to agree to disagree T. Bush took a nation to war only now some in this nation are so weak kneed, gut less and spinless and have it so good in this country they have bailed.
Point two- Best prepared army on planet earth. Period. Best trained best equiped best people, despite what the Dems would have you think.
Point three- Not to continue to live as normal an existence as possible after 911 would have been a victory for al Quida. Yea the Dems would have loved for Bush to tell everyone to go hide under a rock. I do not know where you are from but America does not run and hide my friend.
Point four- Keep driving and keep buying is what keeps the economy going......HELLO MC FLY.........al Quida wanted to cripple our economy remember.
Point five- this argument is oh so typical of liberal class envy types. I am no where near rich and I got a tax break and so did you. If you want a bigger tax cut earn more money. Good Grief.

I agree with nontyp...
Many things have changed in our great country, but a lot of them are not for the better...
It is sad regardless of who the President is, and will be, someone will be there trying to tear them down and piss and moan about what they are doing...
Where would we have been in Gore had been in office? My thoughts make me think that we would have been a lot worse off.
We need to support whomever we elect to office and just hope they make the best decisions possible.
The USA is still the greatest country in the world!!!

millions of people died during WWII. i think war has evolved more into a technical one now, less have died in this was than in WWII. i also belive that we would be out of it faster if it was supported. look at the past wars. the ones that were fully supported we won. the ones that have been protested and made into 'anti-wars" have been horrible flops.

beat this

The war was a mistake and it was screwed up, spin away it changes nothing.

Define supported! Seems to me that everyone is hemorrhaging money to support this ill conceived farce of a war. In WWII we had a defined enemy that was easily identified by the nation. Li'l George?s thing is: this bad man tried to hurt my daddy. Crap, this bozo is nothing but a pawn of D!ck Cheney who's motives are still under debate. (Most likely massive profit). I too am saddened that this nation has lost its innocence ... but I also am saddened that we have lost so many good souls for zero gain. Blame who you will, but George W. Bush bears the responsibility for this one. I really believe he is too stupid to understand the havoc he has unleashed.

No offense Rus but I believe you and the dude are too stupid to understand the depth of the problems we face.
